That is a consequence of having banks in the first place, which is still far better than stuffing your matress full of cash.

Could this hurt the economy?
Also bank can refuse withdrawals if necessary, right?

Lastly, where people will put the money. We don't want carry cash like idiots, do we.

I say give it up, Bank wins no matter what.

Put the money into credit unions. I use a credit union and don't use banks.

France is bracing for Eric Cantona's bank-run revolution Tuesday, with the government criticising his call for the public to stage a mass cash-withdrawal and the left questioning whether it would have much effect.

When the former Manchester United footballer gave a video interview in October calling on citizens to stage a cash-point revolution, protest groups against the financial system decided to coordinate a world-wide withdrawal on December 7, the number of Cantona's lucky shirt.

Asked about street demonstrations to protest against government austerity measures, Cantona said: "We have to change the way we do things nowadays. Talking of revolution, I don't mean we are going to pick up guns and go out to kill people. Revolution is very simple to do nowadays," he told the French paper Presse Ocean.

"What's the system? The system revolves around banks. The system is built on the banks' power. So it can be destroyed by the banks. Instead of having three million people going out to demonstrate with a placard, those three million people go to their bank branch, they withdraw their money and the banks crumble." He directed people: "You go to your bank in your village and you withdraw your money." But as tens of thousands of people signed up to the online campaigns led by a Franco-Belgian anti-bank protest group, the French government warned against "Eric Le Rouge" sticking his nose into economics.

Francois Baroin, the budget minister, said: "It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic." FCantona's call to arms was "grotesque" and "not serious". inance minister Christine Lagarde said witheringly: "There are those who play football magnificently, I wouldn't dare to try. I think it's best for everyone to stick to their own speciality." The director general of BNP Paribas deemed Cantona's appeal "ill-founded".

Cantona told the daily Liberation that he would heed his own call to withdraw money. "Given the strange solidarity that has sprung up, yes. On December 7, I'll be at the bank." Online supporters have pledged that they will either definitely or probably withdraw cash. They are aiming for a bank-run like that which hit the UK's Northern Rock in 2008.

But even the left has queried the idea, saying supporters don't have enough clout to dent the banks.

Olivier Besancenot, the French postman who head of the New Anti-capitalist party, said "I like this desire for revolution. But in reality, the people who would dream of taking part in this don't really have enough money in their accounts."

In Le Monde, the commentator Pierre-Antoine Delhommais quipped that he hoped Cantona would hire a lorry o withdraw his own "sacks of cash", as "one imagines he hasn't worked for free for all these years, advertising the merits of Bic razors, Nike shoes, Partouche casinos, Neuf Telecom, Lipton Teas, the Renault Laguna or L'Oréal deodorants."

Yea...take your money out of the bank, take it home, and put it under your mattress. Then, go out and protest while the thieves hit the homes and take your money. Then, you will wish you had your money in the bank but will not have it to put back after you are done making your point...which your point is you're an idiot.

lol the whole point of this thing is that going out and protesting is outdated, so I doubt they will do that.

PARIS (AFP) – Eric Cantona's bid to destroy global banking appeared to have failed Tuesday as his French compatriots ignored his call to withdraw cash en masse and it emerged his wife had appeared in a TV bank ad.

The wealthy ex-Manchester United star warned his own bank to expect a large withdrawal but there were no reports from anywhere else in France of large numbers of people lining up to take out their money.

He told a BNP Paribas branch in the northern town of Albert he planned to take a break from filming a gangster movie nearby and turn up later Tuesday to withdraw "more than 1,500 euros," branch manager Antoine Poissonier told AFP.

The manager did not say how much Cantona planned to withdraw, but French banks require customers to give them prior notice when they intend to withdraw more than a few hundred euros in cash.

French and European politicians and bankers have criticised the footballer-turned-actor, saying his call for citizens to empty bank accounts and punish the financial sector was irresponsible, naive and misguided.

But tens of thousands of people in France and beyond had promised on social networks like Facebook that they would take up Cantona's call to bring down the "corrupt, criminal" banking system that sparked the global economic crisis.

By mid-afternoon Tuesday -- the day Cantona suggested his anti-capitalist revolution should begin -- very few appeared to have kept their promise.

"We have seen no change," said Didier Borriello of Credit Lyonnais bank in the southern city of Marseille, Cantona's home town, echoing reports from around France of business as usual in the nation's banking institutions.

In Paris, members of an activist group called "Save the Rich" dressed up in striped prison uniforms and withdrew several hundreds euros from a Societe Generale branch and deposited it a nearby bank they saw as more "ethical."

Their aim was "not to bring down the system" as Cantona said he hoped to do, but "to make it work better," said activist Maxime Hupel, who was dressed in a red Man United jersey with "Cantona" written across his back.

But the protests were few, isolated and largely symbolic.

"I'm going to take out 500 euros, but I can't do more," said a woman who gave her name as Isabelle on the Boulevard de Strasbourg, in central Paris.

Cantona's apparent failure was compounded when it emerged Tuesday that his actress wife Rachida Brakni had starred in a television advertisement for Credit Lyonnais that was widely broadcast earlier this year.

Minister for Solidarity Roselyne Bachelot was quick to point out what she said were the contradictions in the anti-capitalist campaign launched by a rich ex-football star whose "wife does advertising for the banking system."

She noted that Cantona had himself appeared in many television, cinema and magazine ads for products ranging from L'Oreal cosmetics to Renault cars.

Cantona first made the withdrawal suggestion in October as millions of trade unionists took to streets in France to protest extending the retirement age in a series of ultimately failed protests.

"What is the system?" he asked, in a video interview with a local newspaper. "It revolves around the banks, the system is built on the power of the banks, so it can be destroyed through the banks."

"The three million people in the street, they go to the bank, withdraw their money, and the banks collapse ... That's a real threat, there's a real revolution," he said in the video that went viral on the web.

"No weapons, no blood, nothing at all. It?s not complicated. Then we?ll be listened to in a different way," said the former footballer, who in a hugely successful career was once banned for nine months for launching a kung-fu kick at an opposing fan who insulted him.

European Union economic affairs commissioner Olli Rehn, once a director of a Finnish first division club, said was a Manchester United fan, but added: "I think Mr Cantona is a better footballer than he is an economist."

That was my initial reaction. But, since you apparently have to give prior notice for large withdrawals, 1,500 is probably just a tier in the paperwork -- as in anywhere between 1,500 and 1 gazillion Euros.
