Sup guys.. I rarly comment or make threads(1st).. but I'm here everyday checkin out the news, and reading up on ur comments.. thought i had a pretty good question to ask, and sorry if this has already been posted.. Been hearin a lot about Denver wanting Favors in the Melo deal.. and so far this season I havn't heard much about him, when it actually comes to playing ball.. so I looked up his stats (yahoo) and wasn't really impressed.. I looked up Hills stat's.. and noticed, they have played similar minute's.. and from stats alone, looks like the same player.. this year is Hills 1st real season.. so i went off that.. That made me think who has more Potential.. and why wouldn't Denver be after Hill the way they are Favors.. Whats so special about Favors?
He's the youngest drafted player of his class. His physical measurements are Dwight Howard -like. He doesn't have much red flags surrounding him (see Cousins, DeMarcus) Despite his age, he was fairly productive in college. Hill loses on all fronts here. That's why.
Derrick Favors New Jersey Position: Forward Height: 6-10 Weight: 246 College: Georgia Tech Player file | Team stats 2010-11 Statistics PPG 6.9 RPG 5.0 APG 0.1 SPG 0.3 BPG 0.6 FG% 0.567 FT% 0.612 3P% 0.000 MPG 18.8 EFF: +9.07 Jordan Hill Houston Position: Center-Forward Height: 6-10 Weight: 235 College: Arizona Player file | Team stats 2010-11 Statistics PPG 6.6 RPG 4.4 APG 0.4 SPG 0.1 BPG 0.8 FG% 0.479 FT% 0.759 3P% 0.000 MPG 18.4 EFF: +7.86 Basically one has more offensive upside in favors and one has more defensive in Hill. To be perfectly honest...both of these guys have a very low IQ and even lower basketball IQ. Neither will be a cornerstone player... I see the end result being the difference between Javal Mcgee and Andre Blatche. Which one is really better?
I haven't watched Favors. But he's a 19 year old kid, and a 15 PER playing 18 mpg seems pretty decent for a 19 year old. Hill is 23, and I don't see much progress from him. His poor hands and lack of general awareness and slow reactions, to me, doesn't bode well. He doesn't seem to have a good feel for the game, and that puts a cap on his potential.
Some this you cant teach...or learn. People are just high on him because he was picked no 2 overall...look at Hasheem Thabeet. The fact that their stats are even close…shows how little difference in game the two are. Favors plays for the nets…there is no legitimate starter hindering him from PT…and he still only gets 18 minutes…his team D looks terrible…his one on one d just as bad…the guy looks awkward whenever he is not attacking the basket… Hill is basically the same thing…except he is playing a more difficult position on D…and looks just as lost. The biggest difference in their game is favors attacks the basket much better…Hill has the same ability just doesn’t do it…That might be largely because there is no one keeping the ball out of favors hand. When hill is on the floor he is the 5th option and knows it… If your job is on the line every game….youd be a little gunshy too. Hes got to make sure before he shoots that Lowry, Martin. Battier, Lee, Brooks, Scola or whoever is on the court doesn’t have an open look. Favors I am sure when he comes off the bench has the green light. as he is their best offensive weapon. BIG difference…in situations…and no difference in stats. My prediction. Jordan hill will be the better jump shooter and one on one defender. Favors will have a higher fg% because he mainly dunks…and more ppg because lack of a leash and cleaning up the boards… rebounds is a toss up…blocks appear to be in hills favor. That’s my take at least.
This and your other comment was vary helpful.. Thanks!! I'm starting to think Favors is over-rated.. I was told his measurements was Dwight Howard like.. we'll he must be a poor man's Dwight Howard.. but he's still a rookie so there's room for improvement i guess
Being worried about issues like that is why this team is in the position it is......Nice guys finish last!!!
