If/When Sony goes with pure software emulation, I'd imagine they could also provide a way to improve the graphics of older titles (upscaling and possibly AA). The GS (or hardware like the GS) is still rendering the graphics for PS2 titles on the PS3, so they can't really do anything above what the GS was capable of doing AFAIK.

This has certainly been a bit of an ugly way to provide BC. From pure software emulation, to hardware emulation, to a mix of both, and probably back to pure software emulation eventually. I'm sure this isn't easy, but I would of thought they would have planned this better too.

I'd imagine things shouldn't be as difficult with the PS4, assuming they go with another variation of Cell and a Nvidia GPU.

    Too bad there won't be a PS4.

edit: Let's spot the differences (EU PS3 first, followed by US/JP PS3):

What are the other, what I must assume, many reasons Fox is the worst studio supporting Blu-Ray? THey bring so many smaller films distribution through Fox Seachlight.

They routinely leave off most if not all the extras that were on the SD-DVD version.

They charge $39.95 list price regardless of what the Blu-ray version contains.

Their transfers are usually mediocre at best.

They've announced a bunch of titles only to cancel them at the last minute.
