do you see anyone's name missing? http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/hoop/nicknames/010605.html perhaps one of the greatest centers of all time? cmon "the dream" its a great nick name.. ------------------ Paranoid, trying to stuff the void.
Except during the playoffs... ------------------ "Light travels faster than sound, so some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak." -- Brian Williams (now Bison Dele) commenting on Isiah Thomas.
The Dream should have made honerable mention. They also missed "Cornbread" Maxwell ------------------ "UNBEATABLE"
The only thing I figure is the list was based upon the flashy, out-of-the-ordinary, type of moniker. Some of those monikers are crazy sounding. But even so, ESPN still missed the mark -- Pistol Pete should have been number 1! ------------------ I am an invisible man.
No way... "The Iceman cometh"! ------------------ "Light travels faster than sound, so some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak." -- Brian Williams (now Bison Dele) commenting on Isiah Thomas.
How about "The Owl Without a Vowel" Bill Mlkvy hehehehehehe! Classic! ------------------ I am an invisible man.
I think you are gay you little punk! Hakeem is so freakin cool he has more then one nickname. Hakeem "the Dream" Olajuwon; The Nigerian Nightmare and I am sure he has some others. Its too late and I am too freakin sleepy to think of any! ------------------
Yeah, there is a worldwide conspiracy by all of the media to disrespect Houston teams and athletes whenever they get a chance. There is a group of media moguls that sit in a backroom and make sure to delete any positive mention of Houston athletes/teams in any article no matter how mundane and inane the article may be. Countless man-hours are spent scouring every story around the globe to make sure that Houston is disrespected as much as possible. The only mention of Houston in any of the current ESPN page 2 lists is NC State's upset of the Cougars. Coincidence...I think not. ------------------
The Dream got us the two titles. Guess you have never been to a home game before? Nobody would say that "the dream" is a gay nickname if they heard him introduced HAKEEEEM THE DREEEEEEEEEEEEEAM OLLLLLLLLLLLLAJUWON!!!!!! Show some respect BIOTCH!!!!! ------------------ Go Rockets!!! SS [This message has been edited by Wink3Cat5 (edited June 06, 2001).]
Actually, I kinda prefer it when they keep the "the" out, and just refer to him as "Dream." ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Those bastards! Dream is a great nickname in the same vein as Magic. I think it is an inexcuseable ommission. Some they listed were great, like Pistol Pete and the Iceman. But others are just really bad: like Dr. Dunkenstein. And it seems there are some criteria involved that have nothing to do with the nickname itself. Air Jordan is pretty mediocre when it comes to nicknames but everyone would cry bloody murder if Jordan was comepletely excluded from the list. And what about other great nicknames for players who were never really as great: Mad Max, the Rifleman. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
After thinking about it.... Eric "Sleepy" Floyd should be on the list. You know why. Q: anyone recall what "JBC" stands for? ------------------ "UNBEATABLE" [This message has been edited by Not Chaney (edited June 06, 2001).]
Actually "The Dream" as a b-ball moniker was used for years by a legendary and a helluva NBA'er before Hakeem ever picked up a fat orange ball. That doesn't diminsh it for Akeem/Hakeem in my eyes, just gives the name more respect. See if you can name the original "Dream".
