People talk about consistency with our 3PT shooting. These are the stats for the guys who averaged 3 or more 3PT shot attempts per game. Will update monthly by putting the latest month on top to see the past month first. It's an easier way to see who is consistently shooting well on our team.

    VanVleet 35%
    Whitmore 32%
    Smith 30%
    Green 26%

    JAN
    Whitmore 40.7%
    Smith 38.3%
    VanVleet 34.9%
    Brooks 34.5%
    Green 30%

    DEC
    Holiday 46.3%
    VanVleet 41.4%
    Whitmore 40%
    Brooks 37.9%
    Smith 36.7%
    Green 32.1%

I like what I'm seeing in our young guys Whitmore and Jabari. They are consistently shooting well from behind the arc the past 2 to 3 months. Whitmore didn't take enough shots in NOV to put up stats, but these past 2 months he's shooting great.

Only 1 starter hitting threes at a good percent and rate, and he's been hobbed such that the rest of his game sucks lately. Very easy to smother Sengun.

If we need better 3PT shooters to be competitive in the future we might have to just seek guys elsewhere if the guys coming up to the end of their contracts aren't good enough. It's hard to win a title now days without having good 3 PT shooters. I'm rooting for our young guys to improve.

Green shot great from the 3 tonight, and some will probably think he's finally proving he's as great as they hoped he would be. The sad fact is that his monthly averages have dropped lower and lower the past 3 months. He's the worst 3 PT shooter by far of anyone on this team taking 3 or more shots per game. A great game here or there doesn't change that fact. I've updated the first entry on this page to include this month's stats.

We need a talent player who can shoot above 37% on the 3 point line and above 45% for a field goal percentage. We need a Malik Bridges or Miles Bridges. We need a player who can be a #2 on a playoff team and a #3 on a championship team.
Mikal Bridges- we can trade for him
Mikes Bridges- we can sign him outright or sign and trade
Dejounte Murray - we can trade Jalen and Jabari and a draft pick and we would receive Murray and AJ Griffin

we have a Star player, two young talented rookies and the rest are ROLE PLAYERS

This is a great way to find something to be annoyed about. They are their averages, that’s why we calculate their average.

FVV is shooting well given how many attempts he’s forced to take.

    Jabari is shooting well.

    Brooks is shooting amazing.

Jalen is shooting poorly all season.

There’s no reason you shouldn’t expect them to be higher or lower than their average on a monthly basis. Maybe only in the case of Jalen because he’s young and trending downwards but that just means either his confidence or his legs are losing energy, it’s not like his mechanics are worse. He shot 34% for 2 years before this, so there must be at least a partial alternate explanation for why he’s 30% this season.

In general our problem is not FVV/Jabari/Brooks it’s Jalen/Amen/Tate/Sengun/Landale who are making our spacing untenable. Sengun and Amen are doing enough outside of 3pt shooting to mitigate it but the others are just killing us.

We were never supposed to be a good shooting team. Udoka took a roster full of below average shooters and decided they will stand around and try to win us games with static 3pt shooting. What’s happening is totally logical. To change this we have to reduce their attempts and increase other types of offense.

That's why I'm big on Reed Sheppard in the draft. I also agree with signing a better overall SG to replace Jalen next year. He's just not good enough, and Cam is still learning the ropes. Put in a decent Veteran to switch out with Cam on the court.

Have to look at home/away split and volume as well. I like Jabari a lot but he needs to figure out how to shoot on the road and also increase his shooting volume next season.
