another hurdle passed today as County Commissioners passed the public funding for the new arena...just need official approval from NBA relocation committee, although there's still a petition drive going on to force a referendum, but time is running out! ------------------
Is it still gonna be the Grizzlies, or is the name changing. I heard it was gonna be "Memphis Express", but I don't recall where. That doesn't sound like a good NBA name, IMO. ------------------ blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
there was talk about changing the name to the Express (FedEx paid $100 million for arena/team naming rights), but the NBA doesn't want to set a precedent and is not favorable to this...the name will remain the Grizzlies for this coming year, but it may change by the time they get in the new arena in 2 years. ------------------
Actually they kinda left open the door for FedEx also. The League wanted to wait and would reconsider if FedEx could prove that the name FedEx was more recognizable than the previous copywrited and well-known logo ... Federal Express. The Grizz can name the arena FedEx Something or Federal Express Whatever, but the name of the team has to be independently associated. ------------------

Heat. Magic. Jazz. Or what about teams who are referred to by their nicknames instead of their names? Like the 'Sonics or the 'Blazers or the Kicks. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
