Crazy. Prayers for his family, friends, and teammates. One of the brightest young pitchers in the game

How incredibly sad. Just watched him shred the Nationals a few days ago and now he's gone.

    RIP

It can happen so quick, He was a stud that hadn't even gotten to his prime yet.

His girl is also pregnant so he was going to become a dad soon. Life is so damn cruel sometimes

Boat looks all sorts of ****ed up... wonder if alcohol / speed played any kind of factor... Always sad when someone so young and promising passes away so suddenly. RIP.

Hate to hear somebody died who had so much future ahead of them. But 24 years old, you don't have good sense at that age. Terrible. RIP

Can't think of one that young who was that good. Darryl Kile and Thurman Munson were in their early 30's and Clemente was at the end of his career, iirc. Oscar Taveras of the Cards was just starting his career and could have been a superstar.

Terribly sad. Obviously they didn't see the buoy at the end of the jetty and were going too fast, given how the boat landed.

That is such a dumb thing to say. No offense.

24 years old, you have sense.

I appreciate people age differently, but this kid had been through a lot. With defecting, or trying to, multiple times. Being thrown in jail, etc.

Would you say the same if it comes out that a 35 year old was driving?

If you wanna call him that maybe Sean Taylor ? Both died in Miami at age 24 both were two allstars and both were in their 4th season I believe

I'm attributing it to age because the boat was turned over on rocks. You ever heard the phrase young and dumb?
I'm not doubting that the kid was having fun and that is was an innocent mistake, and you hope that stupid misktakes like this don't cost a person their life. But there is always a possibility that it happens.

    per the press conference:

    Fernandez was a passenger
    High speed was a factor
    Boat had running lights on
No sign of alcohol or drugs at this point
Boat was familiar with that area
Nobody was wearing a life jacket
2 bodies under the boat, 1 in the water

He said something about the area being unlit, if so I can't believe there's not a light on the buoy.

So sad. Condolences to his family and friends. He didn't deserve to die this young.
