What teams' PnR are you worried about? GSW isn't what I'd call a PnR team. And keep in mind Paul is one of the best PnR defensive gaurds around. Didn't Gasol do as good as anyone at guarding us last year, and we were the best PnR team.

And also keep in mind that Capela only plays 24 minutes. And can't really finish games. Gasol plays 10 mpg more than Capela and he averages 40mpg in the playoffs.

Capela is a great fit in his own way and younger, but dude needs to give us legit starter minutes. Us Rockets fans just gloss over that fact, like assuming anyone can play 34mpg and maintain their per-100 possession efficiency. Capela has given us zero evidence that he can do that. Same with Nerlens Noel. He's got a motor problem. MDA acknowledged that motor issue last pre-season and said he looked forward to giving Capela starter minutes, but never happened. Capela still only played half the game.

Capela does not have a motor problem. The dude plays hard as hell. What he needs is a "bigger tank". It's quite normal for 22 year old bigs trying to put on weight. 24 minutes last year compared to 19 the year before. If he is up at 28 minutes a game this year at 23 years old, we are looking good.

Not sure what Gasol expects Memphis to do. They have a nucleus of Gasol, Parsons, and Conley. That's what you got buddy. It's Memphis, so the premier free agents won't be interested.

Sounds like Gasol has given up of the Griz.

Marc Gasol is better than Capela, apart from rebounding and running the P/R. Capela might be able to give us some rim protection too. I love Nene, but a Marc Gasol/Capela combo would be great on the Rockets. I don't see the Grizzlies trading him to Houston.

Gasol is more of an all star than Melo anyday of the week. He is also younger than Melo so if you think he fell off in 3 years than Melo's even worse.

Capela played 19mpg in 2016 because we had Dwight Howard, not because he's on some type of controlled trajectory. He would have played 24 mpg then, too, had Dwight not been on the team.

Motor or tank or whatever. Same difference. If he has a low tank, his motor stops running.

MDA said last year he was looking to get Capela to real starter minutes.MDA acknowledged he had a low tank/motor. It didn't happen. and it didn't happen for a reason.

You say it's quite normal, and I say it is also quite normal these 24 mpg centers can never elevate their minutes at same productivity.. They often get a big second contract on potential to play more minutes, then the new team artificially gives them those minutes based upon free agency signing agreement, then the per-100 production drops, and you never really hear much talk about them having much potential again....and then later some contender gets them and returns them to 24 mpg and they look good again.

That is quite normal, too. Your examples and mine are normal. Yours are just easier to cite because the success stories are easier to remember. Tiago Splitter was renowned for low motor, and Pops never gave him 25 mpg. And he got less in the playoffs....never even 23 mpg in the playoffs. I'm sure I could cite more if I thought about it.

Gasol provides paint defense though, thats something Capela can't do. Gasol is just a big body in the paint, maybe Capela is better as switch defender because he can keep up with smaller guys but Gasol will just flat out discourage PnRs from happening in the first place. Why do you think Prime Lebron and Dwade lost to the Mavs? Its because they had a big C on the court at all times, when you have a big body like that on D it just makes scoring sk much harder.

This is a common misconception. Capela is fine with rim protection. The reason our points in the paint is always a problem is more to do with the ease at which our perimeter players allow opponents to drive past them. I'm not arguing that he is better then gasol, but he is good, despite the points in paint allowed stat.

There was a good article about this somewhere that dove deep into it. If anyone has the link that would be dope.

As to the argument on shooting 3s and being a good passer. With Paul and Harden controlling the game, I don't see a huge increase in our offense having a player like Gasol. Our offense is heavily dependent on the drive and ally threat off the PnR.
That's why Capela is a great fit. Who fills that void if no Capela? Paul is coming from the best lob situation in the league with Blake and DeAndre. Harden had Clint.

So your saying let's take out what our two super star players do best and has been proven to be very successful, in the hopes that Gasol can shoot 39% from the 3 point line? But here's the tricky part, without the dive and lob combo, spacing on the perimeter will be much less available.

As great as he is, Honestly I don't see this as a huge upgrade, and would be risking a big strength of Paul and harden.

I gotta think Gasol can throw it down if you pass it to him at the cup! Pretty much any pro can.
