Laptops that are not expensive / capable of running high end games?

No, they are far more expensive, AND you don't have the ability to replace/upgrade individual components like you can on a desktop. For example, I can put a new video card in my desktop, which can improve the performance tremendously. You cannot do that on a laptop. If a power supply goes bad, I can pop a new one in there for $40. You cannot do that with a laptop. If my screen goes bad, I can but a new 23" 1080p monitor for as low as $99. You cannot do that on a laptop.

Now I don't hate laptops, I have one myself but it is a cheap one and that was all I needed for when I HAD to have portability.

You just have to figure out what your number one priority is. If portability is your number one priority, then yes, you need a laptop. But if you don't NEED your primary computer to be portable, then you can better spend your money on a desktop.

The computer industry loves nothing more than people buying in to the silly notion that a portable should be used for your main computer, because it makes them a TON more profit, but it does not particularly benefit the customers.

I simply don't have the room for a desktop. And honestly, if i did, I'd probably buy a desktop over a laptop, and then use a kick-ass smart phone like a Galaxy S3 / S4 as a 'portable laptop' since the phone is basically like a tablet.
