While rebounds aren't necessarily a problem (outrebounding opponents 44 to 43.2), Rockets have the worst paint defense in the NBA. Kyle O'Quinn solves that problem.
    - Blocks per 36 min: 3.2 (best in the NBA)
    - Rebounds per 36 min: 13.1 (7th best among centers with at least 50 games played)
    - Defended FG%: 43% (3rd best among centers with at least 50 games played)

Knicks want a 1st round pick (source below), but I'm sure we could get away with KJ McDaniels and Denver's 2nd round pick.

He's a mauler in the paint, and brings a certain aggression, like you see in Montrezl Harrell, but bigger and stronger. He's a lockdown paint defender, and can box anyone out for rebounds. He's also on a very cheap contract ($4 mil per year for the next 3 seasons).

PS: Maybe there's a thread for this, but felt it needed it's own as it's more of a short article. Move it if necessary.

definitely not worth a 1st rounder, but as OP proposed, i really think KJ and a 2nd could get it done.

    Calling @heypartner

    Per 36 stats!

What do y'all think it'd take to get him?

great idea, and he fills a need, but no way is he worth KJ and a 2nd rounder (early 2nd rounders have great value as they aren't guaranteed contracts, plus it's a deep draft). you could do better with those assets IMO.

No Thanks. Definitely not worth a first rounder

Certainly not worth a first but he would be a nice pick up. The question is what are we doing with Harrell if we got O'Quinn?

He really does have great advanced metrics, specifically defensively, and I disagree about rebounding being a problem for us. He would be a great get.

Also, I would try kj and best of our 2nds but ultimately I think I would part with Harrell and lower of our 2nds.

he reminds me of Chuck Hayes defensively. Under the rim protection Vs above the rim. Not flashy at all, but very efficient at his job none the less.

Maybe they sell high on Denver's 2nd right now, while everyone assumes Pelicans take the 8th seed, just in case Denver makes the playoffs

    He is easily worth kj+2nd.

I think you guys need to check out his defensive stats. His advanced stats are very very good. And I'm not talking per 36

Yeah, I agree. I really like the idea of O'Quinn (as you mentioned he's a good shot blocker, above average defender, can shoot midrange + knock down FTs). Although I haven't checked to be honest, I just feel like there could be better pieces to acquire with those assets. Don't really feel like O'Quinn really has enough value for most NBA teams to have him on their radar that's why I don't feel like he's worth what we'd potentially give up.

edit: just saw how great his contract situation is so i'm actually wrong...very team friendly. it actually would be a pretty good morey-type move. the question now remains, what is KJ's value on the market? do you hold onto him in hopes of trying to package him + others for something else? or do you try to get an under-the-radar type player who most teams may not even realize is having a good season?

I've watched a couple of knicks games and i have to say that i really really liked him. I also wondered why he didnt start over Noah. Lately, i haven't watched any knicks games(they stink again) and i dont know how he has been doin lately

    Whoa.

If I'm deciphering Doc Rocket's cryptic tweet correctly, I think he's saying that... well, I guess it's pretty obvious this time, innit?
