They have solid young roster and money to spend. The rox have an old dysfunctional roster and are over the cap. Knicks add Boogie and Bobby Portis and they can make some noise in the east

WIth the 3yr being a team option, this deal isn't bad really.

They aren't getting top tier talent so they bring in a piece that fits with a young roster.

They could end up being like the Nets of last year, a surprising 8th seed.

What noise. Trying to win 30 games doesn’t exactly qualify lol

Can't really compare the two situations, because the max for a regular person is far different than that of a professional basketball player.

Excellent move regardless of what the fickle fans here have to say.

$21 million per season for a solid 20-10 production guy.

Randle will fit nicely next to Barrett and Knox in the Knicks front court. This will be a great value contract.

Julius is capable of averaging like 23, 10, and 3-4 apg...3/63 with the 3rd year being a team option is pretty good

signing Taj Gibson I don’t get tho

Say the salary for you profession with your experience is 85k. You go out to interview and one potential employer offers 85k, another employer says we can only offer you 65k but better "optics". Which one would you choose?

    Obviously you choose the 85k.

    But what's a 20k comparison to an NBA player's salary? Randle's 3/63 vs...3/70? 3/75?

I'd give a lot of thought to it, sure. But if base salary was 63 million and a significantly bigger chance to win a championship vs 75 million playing in PHX, I think I'd take the 63. 10-12 million dollars, while a lot to a regular person like you and me, might not move the needle for me, as a professional basketball player getting these types of contracts.

That's why I don't think you can compare the regular layman's salary to an athlete's salary.

From the player's perspective, **** a championship, only one team wins a year. Randle is young and unless he was going to sign with Philly, there's nowhere he could make what he's going to make and contend. Its about making the most money while they can because if he's broke five years after retirement everyone will laugh at him. Championships are for the owners, the media and the fans. If he can get one while getting max dollars cool, if not he can chase a ring when his athleticism declines. Either way this is a business bro

    Knicks gonna Knick.

I get rewarding your best player, who took your team to the playoffs...but he was basically a no-show against the Hawks.

good for the knicks. well deserved extension. got his first taste of the playoffs after a huge breakout year as an All Star and making All-NBA 2nd team at still only 26 years old. As long as he doesn't stay completely complacent, it's a good choice to lock him up. Now it's about getting more pieces around him as well. They should be right back in the playoffs once again

Not only that, last year was his 7th season and it essentially didn’t resemble anything he has ever done in the NBA the prior 6 years, shooting wise.

Extremely strong 1 year outlier potential. Especially that 3 point shooting.

Randle's last season was no fluke, he has the talent and skills to be a perennial 25/10/5 guy, whether he can stay motivated and in shape after the big payday is another story.
