Alotta news swirling out there that the 49ers are getting calls on Trey Lance. Considering the small sample size, could be steal if the guy ends up being as good as they assumed he could be. Only issue would be the compensation the 49ers would want for him. I think he has potential based on his arm and ability to extend plays….but the lack of experience is a concern to many. I think the Texans should maybe offer a 3rd this year and maybe like a 4th next year or something like that. Would also give a 2nd, but that is pushing it. Would def do it tho! 2 years left on his rookie deal…so its actually a good scenario to give a trial run.
I’d rather roll with Stroud. 49ers traded all of that for Trey just to trade him 2 years later. They know something. No thanks.
Maybe the Texans have a draft day deal in place with the 49ers. If the Texans can't draft a QB at 12 or move up from 12 to get their guy, then they send the 49ers their 2nd rounder for Trey Lance. But they don't make the move on the trade until it's clear they are not getting their target QB in the 1st.
I have no idea who their guy is…. Makes perfect sense to me to draft your Bosa with pick 2, take another defensive stud (or WR) with pick 12 and STILL be able to get a QB in Lance. All without giving up any 1st’s Would sting, but I would def give that 2nd up and go with Lance. Or trade back from pick 2 and give one of those picks from that trade back deal for Lance.
From what I've heard and read so far is that both the Colts and Texans have Levis as their 2nd rated QB in the draft after Young. If the Texans don't draft Levis with their 2nd pick, he'll be gone when the Colts are on the clock. Stroud won't make it past Atlanta at 8. At 11, Tennessee will either draft one of the remaining QB's or trade back with Washington/Tampa Bay since they only have 6 picks in this years draft.
From what I have "heard".... ok. Lets spill the sources. The most plugged in analyst is calling Houston "buttoned up." Not buying it.
Trey Lance would have zero impact on who I draft this year. If I like a QB at 2, I'm taking him. If not, move on. If I like a QB in the 2nd, I'm taking him. I would be fine trading a late pick for Trey Lance to kick those tires, but the odds are he's just a bust. The team that gave up 3 firsts and runs the same system you are about to run has zero interest in keeping him.
No one knows what we are going to do. I love it this way. Makes watching the draft so much more exciting.
I wouldn't pay much attention to that. They draft RBs in the 3rd round all the time and they got replaced with a late round pick in Elijah Mitchell and then he got replaced by CMC who they threw a ton of picks at. Shanahan also put Aiyuk in the doghouse his rookie year. They are just notoriously known for giving up easily on young guys
If *they* know something, I'm guessing our large contingent of former 49ers coaches know the same thing. If Ryans, et al, like him... as I said in another thread: I'm not arguing he's better than Young, Stroud, etc. - but he does arrive with far fewer questions. It does not matter who it is, you just never know with rookies. A dozen things could go wrong. With Lance, they would know: his strengths, his weakness; how hard he works; how hard he studies; what kind of teammate he is, etc. You're dealing from a foundation of greater certainty and that has tremendous value. Also, if we assume 1.2 is otherwise going to be used on a QB - which is better: Lance + 1.2 + 1.12? Or 1.2 + 1.12?
If If Ryans and Slowik have seen enough in 2 years to make a judgement to bring him over, I’m all for it.
