I agree with Torocan -- to a point. Here's what I'm wondering... Everyone knows Morey is all about advanced stats. Every player personnel move he makes is based on some pretty deep statistical analysis, from every conceivable angle, and even some angles that nobody else has ever tried to get metrics on before. Right? RIGHT?? You'd have to think that Morey would also use advanced stats to determine the coaching effectiveness of candidates, and that he should know -- based on previous performance -- which of the numerous available coaching candidates would actually make the best coach for this particular team. Which candidate would utilize the Rockets unique roster capabilities to our best advantage. So with that in mind, why did he choose McHale as coach? What did those advanced stats show him about McHale? There's always the possibility that Morey doesn't apply stats to coaches, only to players. I find that unlikely. My theory: McHale's small sample size as a head coach showed Morey something statistically that hasn't been borne out now that McHale has another 160+ games under his belt.
there is a simpler explanation McHale is good at some things and bad at the other things...so in general he is a good coach...he contributed a lot to this sucess...on the other hand he had his share of mistakes...
agreed. however, we have seen parker and manu, earlier in their careers get benched for going outside the offense. Pop would never let one player, no matter what his status is, change his system. coach mchale tells us he doesn't like sticky balls so he should do something about it. he is the head coach afterall. don't fear the beard, mchale. what's the worst that can happen? harden's feelings get hurt? that's why we have keith jones on the sidelines. we play our best when we play that democratic brand and harden needs to learn to play in it. he is so talented that he will still put up league leading numbers.
