That was pretty good but I was hoping he would say “Es GGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOONEEEEE GOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNEEEEEEE!!!”
Was just thinking they while Bagwell and Biggio were great in regular season they had to face legendary pitchers like Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz seemingly every post season. That might be one reason they struggled. Altuve has faced tough pitching in the post season but maybe not HOF pitchers that the killer Bs dealt with.
Off topic but thought you might be interested. My daughter recently sent me a message telling me that my Sensei, Young Nim Chung passed away recently. I taught Judo at his Acadamy for several years. He was a great friend to have and he will be missed by Judokas and the practitioners of Tai kwon do around the world.
I liked the WSJ internet headline: "Jose Altuve Wins Wildest MLB Game of the Year, Because of Course"
Those same HOF pitchers achieved one ring. And they didn't pitch every inning vs Houston. Atlanta wasn't the only team they struggled against either. The Killer Bees simply did not ball when it mattered most. They did nothing until Beltran and Berkman gave example.
Biggio career playoffs... .234 with 2 homers and 11 RBI's in 167 at-bats. Bagwell career playoffs.... .226 with 2 homers and 13 RBI's in 106 at-bats. Yordan tied those HR numbers in 1 game!
Sorry for the loss of your Sensei and to the students he taught. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with your Sensei. Was he in Houston?
The recognition is cool and warranted. The gray-haired guy is crazy to think Altuve will catch Kent's HRs (168 behind) before he reaches 3000 hits (953 behind).
Yet how many titles did Maddox, Smoltz, Gavine, Kevin Brown, etc get? They were generally the bridesmaids to the eventual champions.
Passan is as guilty as anybody for continuing to suckle from the teet of that story for more clicks/hits/page views/tweets... while completely ignoring the other teams implicated (or in some cases convicted), and additionally continuing to promote the narrative that this should be thought of every time this team has success (even though there's what, 2 players left? and they've continued to have just as much success?). And now he's still getting to use the impacts of that narrative to write more stories. Its ugly.
