...at least say the Crusades (which happened 500+ years ago) were not true Christianity, Barack. You do that for Islamic terrorism today...

    http://wtvr.com/2015/02/06/obama-under-fire-for-crusades-comparison/

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum seized on President Barack Obama’s comparison of Islamic extremism to the Christian Crusades during Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast, decrying the comments as “inappropriate” and “insulting to every person of faith.”

“Today’s remarks by the President were inappropriate and his choice of venue was insulting to every person of faith at a time when Christians are being crucified, beheaded, and persecuted across the Middle East,” the potential Republican presidential contender said in a statement.

The comments, which were intended to illustrate the potential for religion to be used for both good and bad aims, drew fierce criticism from conservatives on Thursday. And with Santorum’s decision to weigh in, could rapidly become fodder for attacks from potential 2016 contenders looking to burnish their credentials with the religious right.

The former Pennsylvania senator went on to slam Obama for misunderstanding the threat posed by the rise of Islamic extremism, and accused him of tying modern Christians to “the scourge in the Middle East.”

“While Christians of today are taught to live their lives as the reflection of Christ’s love, the radicals of ISIS use their holy texts as a rationale for violence,” he said. “To insinuate modern Christians — the same Christian faith that led the abolitionist movement, the Civil Rights Movement, and global charitable efforts fighting disease and poverty — cannot stand up against the scourge we see in the Middle East is wrong.”

Santorum also suggested that some Muslims have only been opposed to ISIS’ burning a Jordanian pilot alive because they are opposed to the “tactic,” not the actual murder itself.

“Some Muslims…[have] sat quietly by as the Islamic State uses brutal violence that is not antithetical to Islam and only objects on tactics,” he said.

During the National Prayer Breakfast, Obama didn’t downplay the threat posed by ISIS, but instead made the case that “humanity has been grappling with” the tension between the good and bad deeds done in the name of religion for ages.

“And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ,” he said.

And besides, we all can see how (just like Santorum) you are twisting what the President said to fit your small minded world view.

The depiction of the Crusades held by Obama is laughable.

The Christians certainly did their fair share of terrible things during the Crusades, but so did the Muslims.

It has become an excuse for the behavior of Islam extremists by those on the extreme left.

Basically this..... It has taken me years to reach this conclusion, and I am a liberal.... but many liberals make excuses where they are not needed.

This is a fair point. I do not have any issues with someone being very uncomfotable with a national prayer breakfast.

I was hoping he was going to call out all religion as stupid when he was talking...but he didn't.

But anyhow what he said was a joke and a cop out. This is sectarian religious violence. The Islamic State is pushing their moral code and their view of Islam. I don't know how else you can define this.

Except that's not what Obama said or implied. No one excused anything.

Yeah he said that modern Christians shouldn't go feeling morally superior to terrorists because Christians did bad stuff hundreds of years ago. It's not that we are excusing them, just don't go thinking your are better. Our sinful nature leads all of us to do bad stuff, just like the terrorists.

    Lol

Don't get on your high horse if someone beheads someone else for not being Muslim. Or for being executed because rape is considered adultery. Or for drawing cartoons.

    They're grappling.
