i am split on this one. on one hand, i get to see at least four more rockets playoff games; otoh, there is a chance of finding a gem in the teen's range (stockton, malone) , however slim it may be.
I'm ambivalent. On the one hand, we have no shot of beating OKC, SAS, or GSW in a 7 game series. On the other hand, I got a taste of winning last year and it was all too brief - even a small chance is a chance. On one hand, a draft pick is a tradeable asset that Morey can use in his perpetual arbitrage to marginally upgrade talent. On the other hand, we've lived through almost a decade of that now and our fruits have been one WCF berth. As you pointed out, we draft mediocre players anyway. Missing the playoffs might be a dealbreaker when attracting free agents. We need to go all in. There's very little positive to missing the playoffs for us.
I don't think making the playoffs is as important as people try to make it seem as far as FA's. if a player truly wants to play with a certain team and their personnel they will decide to come. If you're a .500 team and just happen to make the playoffs in a down year, that doesn't carry much weight imo as far as FA's.
i'm not super reactionary.. but this thread title did make me think and realize that I do feel a little embarrassed to be a fan of this team. I'm still a huge fan...but I think both things can be true at the same time. The number of times I've had to hear about Dwight (complaining, controversy, trade stuff, whining), James (defense, lazy, foulathon), TJ (terrible, bust), the trade reversal, etc.--unfortunately isn't balanced by winning. Nor by prospects (beyond Beasley suddenly, and maybe KJ/Dekker). Nor by all-out effort/hustle by everyone. I'd just like some redeeming qualities to fall back on when things look bleak--even if they're forward looking.
yeah. nothing is more exciting to me than seeing a houston team playing in the postseason, bball or football. (dont care about baseball - at all. sorry, astros.)
texans getting absolutely embarrassed wasn't really exciting. The rockets likely getting blown out in a sweep doesn't sound very exciting either
