No contract is untradeable in the NBA.
However, Lin is as close to being untouchable as they come.
    Here's why:

    1) his on court production does not match his contract, let alone his 15 mil ballon payment. No team including heavy spenders like LA, NY, brooklyn will take him.

    2) his negative trade value means that the only way Morey is able to trade him is if we get an equally atrocious trade piece or we have to add value going out. This will never happen. Especially since we don't want to foil our 2015 offseason cap room.

    3) Morey has already let go of him once to have Lin go super lintendo on him. He will not be made the laughing stock of the nba with the off chance that this would happen again.

So for better or worse, it seems like Lin will be with the Rox until his contract runs out. Thus one of our main offseason priorities would be to find a veteran pg that would complement Lin as part of that second unit.

Can anyone think of a scenario that has Lin in a non rockets uniform next season?

Lin will be a $15 million expiring contract next season, no? A lot of teams would love to have him come off the books, I bet.

Except this is not a lin sucks or lin is really good but being held back by mchale/harden.
I wanted to have a conversation about him as an asset and how we can improve his stock/help our team.

We've just won against OKC and clinched the playoffs, and that's all you can think off?

He will be an expiring contract or a filler to match a big incoming salary. That's about it.

Lin's on-court production in his role in Houston is not Lin's expected production in another role on another team.

It's $8.3m expiring. $15m is just what he'll actually be paid.

it has been said many times. the value of lin's contract will rise at the end of next season, particularly for the team which are planning to rebuild.

by the way, i think lin is doing well both on court and in the locker room.

Can cash be included in a trade?

eg Lin + $6/7M so that his cap hit and his salary will match?

Where does the $3M number come from?

Was thinking purely about the bu$ine$$ side of the game... I think Lin
would be a positive $$$, from ad revenue, billboards at venue, demand
for games from overseas point of view.

So disregarding the game impact, from a money angle, he would be viewed very favourably.

    Inside word:

    LA, NY, Nets all interested.
No agreement, asking price too high.

NO. It's part of the reason he can't be traded. His contract is only worth roughly 8M on the books, whoever owns it by next year though will have to pay the extra 7M.
