Is it against the rules to run out of bounds to avoid an intentional foul?

I was thinking back to this play:

Where Dwight tries to avoid the Laker players trying to foul him.

Is there any rule that says you can't run out of bounds on purpose? And if not, could this be an effective way to counter the hack-a-Dwight? Like Dwight could just take off and run down the tunnel

This season you can no longer stay out of bounds for more than a few seconds. (I forget what the exact wording is, but probably something like you're not allowed to go out of bounds unless trying to save or incidentally). So no.

What a pansy move that was by Dwight. He needs a sports psychiatrist. The free throw thing is a gigantic cloud for this guy. Instead of running away he needs to step up and dare them to foul him. Get your mind right son.

Are you joking?? He's trying to kill clock because he's known to be a bad ft shooter. He shouldn't have even been out there at that point. We'd be better off with a minute of dmo at that point.

He's a bad free throw shooter because it's in his head. Why else would he shoot 80% in practice and 50% in games? It's mental. Running away like a b**** doesn't solve any problems.
