CBS reporting Correa will go on DL and out till at least June 11 So, who will they bring up next and try to say is more ready than Alvarez/Tucker
Unless Astros feel they can cover SS with existing team, these guys probably won't be called up as I'm pretty sure Alvarez and Tucker aren't ready to play SS.
Unless Altuve is ready it almost has to be Straw by process of elimination. I don't think the Astros want to give him MLB innings at SS right now, but the only other middle infield option is Alex De Goti. Even when Altuve is ready that's still only 3 players really capable of playing the left side. We have Bregman, Yuli, Mayfield for the left side and Mayfield/Kemp for 2B. Theoretically we can survive with 4 guys for 3 spots, but that's awfully thin.
The number of injuries is startling. I don't know if I recall anything like it. Essentially, these are all non-contact injuries. Correa is becoming "injury-prone." Very troubling.
Only thing I saw from CBS was this.. " Carlos Correa was scratched with an injury to his ribs that could cost him a couple of weeks. " Speculation right now.
No **** Bregman and Mayfield will be the SS options for the time being, if they feel the need for a 3rd option there then i'm sure it will be Straw coming up to be the emergency 3rd SS. Problem is we don't have a minor league option ready to be a true SS
Yet, that is what I saw this morning. You could also tell by AJ's demeanor at the press conference last night that he didn't feel good about Correa.
Holy F'n sh*t. How do you get injured on a day off? What? Did he spit his sunflower seed too hard or something. I would say this is getting comical but come on man. I want my team to succeed. That will be hard to do when so many guns are out. Did the Astros secretly hire Keith Jones? And before anyone mentions the Yankees. I don't care about the Yankees.
Bregs to SS, Gurriel to 3rd... frees up quite a bit. Reddick (done in spring training)/Diaz/White/Alvarez at first? That provides significant versatility...
Yea I think Bregs to SS and Yuli to 3B is what they do, but Diaz is out, and I don't see them risking Super 2 on Alvarez yet. So the problem is it leaves you with White at 1B and Mayfield/Kemp at 2B, with no real backup at 1B or 3B. Straw at least gives you an emergency middle infield option with Bregman going back to 3B. I seriously wonder if they are working the phones pretty hard right now trying to trade for a utility guy, maybe someone stuck at AAA somewhere, or even on the phone with a guy like Jose Reyes who I don't think signed anywhere
Updated position player roster FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON BECAUSE GOD HATES US: LF Fisher SS Bregman DH Brantley 3B Gurriel RF Reddick 1B White C Chirinos CF Marisnick 2B Kemp Bench: Stubbs, Straw, Mayfield
I would assume if any of the injuries were considered long term or serious, they’d be more likely to bring up Tucker and/or Alvarez to give the lineup some punch. But Brantley or Alvarez would have to play 1B.
