So she tweets out a bunch of incorrect ****. Then deleted it. Then writes the below to someone who quoted her previous false tweet. Then deletes that
Chuck Schumer goes silent on his recently-expressed (2017) view that anti-Zionism is a form of anti-Semitism. Or perhaps he believes, as Emerson remarked, "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." "Democrats have been scrambling over the last few weeks to downplay a surge in anti-Semitic rhetoric in their party and on the left, with the rationale that such statements express 'anti-Zionism' in defense of the supposedly oppressed Palestinian people and have nothing to do with anti-Semitism. Democrats and their media allies maintain such rhetoric condemns Israeli policies and does not reflect religious bigotry. "Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) just recently made this claim to backtrack on repeated public anti-Israel remarks, including that 'Israel has hypnotized the world' and is an 'evil' 'regime.'" ". . . This is nonsense. The claim that 'anti-Zionism does not equal anti-Semitism' is a fallacious argument to discredit Israel and weaken American support for it. Unfortunately, such arguments appear to be having an effect, since a recent Economist/YouGov poll found that only a quarter of American liberals think of Israel as an ally — down from the 36 percent of liberals who viewed Israel as an ally in 2017. "Sen. Chuck Schumer took a bold stand on this issue in July 2017 when he praised French President Macron for condemning anti-Zionism as a reinvented form of anti-Semitism. Schumer added: 'The idea that all other peoples can seek and defend their right to self-determination but the Jewish people cannot; that other nations have a right to exist but the Jewish State of Israel does not, that, too, is a modern form of anti-Semitism, just as President Macron said this weekend.' "Schumer also condemned the anti-Israel boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement as “a pernicious effort to delegitimize Israel through boycotts, divestment and sanctions” and a reinvented form of anti-Semitism. You can watch Schumer’s comments below: "Due to a surge in this new form of anti-Semitism, including in the U.S. Congress, it is time for Schumer and other congressional Democrat leaders to speak out again against this religious bigotry." more at the link: http://thefederalist.com/2019/01/23...id-anti-zionism-anti-semitism-now-hes-silent/
Nancy stepping up her game and slapping Omar on the hand: House Democratic leaders are calling on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) to apologize for what many saw as anti-Semitic comments perpetuating the tired stereotype that Jews control politics with money. In a statement issued Monday, the Democratic leadership said that legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies and its treatment of Palestinians is protected by free speech, but Omar’s use of “anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters is deeply offensive.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that she and Omar have spoken and that they’ve agreed “to move forward as we reject anti-Semitism in all forms.” The statement comes after two Jewish House Democrats, alarmed by what they consider anti-Semitic comments from new Muslim colleagues, urged Pelosi and her top lieutenants to denounce the divisive rhetoric and take action to stop it. On Sunday, Omar, a freshman congresswoman, suggested on Twitter that American politicians are influenced by a powerful pro-Israel lobbying group, setting off a firestorm of criticisms from both sides of the aisle. Reps. Josh Gottheimer (N.J.) and Elaine Luria (Va.) are gathering signatures on a letter asking Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) and other senior Democrats to confront Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, also a freshman congresswoman from Michigan, by “reiterating our rejection of anti-Semitism and our continued support for the State of Israel.” “As Jewish Members of Congress, we are deeply alarmed by recent rhetoric from certain members within our Caucus, including just last night, that has disparaged us and called into question our loyalty to our nation,” the letter reads, according to a draft viewed by The Washington Post. “We urge you to join us in calling on each member of our Caucus to unite against anti-Semitism and hateful tropes and stereotypes.” Although the letter does not name Omar and Tlaib, its intention couldn’t be clearer. In fact, Jewish lawmakers in recent weeks have huddled privately to discuss what they should do about their new colleagues, who openly criticize Israel and have made insensitive comments about Jews and Jewish Americans. The last straw came Sunday night, when Omar suggested in a tweet that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) supported Israel only for campaign donations. “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” she wrote, an apparent reference to the 1997 Puff Daddy single featuring the Notorious B.I.G., Lil’ Kim and The Lox. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...-semitism-over-tweets/?utm_term=.ce60ab08005d
What did she make up that’s false? She apologized for making a point that bothered people because it reminded them of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the government. That doesn’t mean she was herself advancing such a conspiracy theory. There are Israeli lobby groups that seek to influence US policy to favor Israeli interests in that region before the interests of others. Have we reached a point where politicians can’t even acknowledge this fact without being smeared as an anti-Semite? Or is it only Muslims who aren’t allowed to go there?
There are lobbyist that do seek to influence representatives but he says they pay them. Israeli lobbyists don't pay congressman. I understand the horrors and apartheid Israel has put on Palestinian people but I don't appreciate loose cannon rhetoric from either side.
Wait what? There are no pro Israel lobbyists donating money to congressmen? Or am I misunderstanding? https://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/indusclient.php?id=Q05&year=2018
IOW, critiquing the influence of lobby groups like AIPAC is off limits because it is trafficking in “anti-Semitic tropes”. That’s a super convenient defense for a lobbyist.
I think that's the basic perspective on the topic captured here: https://mondoweiss.net/2019/02/congressional-candidates-stephanie/
