PRON. I dont care for any of them

Real answer is, I'd give up sports.

There's still plenty things outside athletic sports that have competition and human skills, duals, chosing sides and personal interests at stake, faceoffs, meeting deadlines, etc. So many things in spirit of competition.

Reality tv is much like that. Or shows like American Idol where its picking a winner. Ive always thought of shows like Dancing With the Stars as "Sports for Chicks".

Can play the stock market, still play video games, do physical challenges like rock climbing. Can judge artistic talents, cooking shows, pageants, debates.

So music along with a bunch of semi pseudo-"sports"

I'm weird but I barely listen to any music as it is. I've basically given it up already.

Same here. As big as music is to me, I couldn't live without sports more. No more Sunday football, no Super Bowl, no baseball during the dog days of Summer, no Rockets, no Olympics, no random obscure sports that are just awesome to watch on a lazy afternoon. Plus bing a PE teacher, would make my job a little more challenging.

    Poll confused me.

I can't live without music so I selected watching sports. Now that does mean I'm giving up watching sports? Or that I would choose to watch sports?

Yeah same here. I only listen to music when I'm driving, and I only really like 2 bands. I've seen them live multiple times and I've listened to all of their CDs dozens of times, so I could give that up fairly easily if I have to.

I'd say that I've never heard of 80% of the bands in the "listening to" thread, 18% I know of and don't like, and 2% I like/tolerate.

Don't that play music at sports events? Would I have to cover my ears during pregame and timeouts?

The people saying they'd give up sports should have been drowned at birth.

    I'd give up sports.

Not really a fair comparison. Sports is simply institutionalized tribalism and competition for which humans crave. There are too many substitutes. On the other hand, music is one of the greatest aspects of living.

When one hears Handel, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, the Flaming Lips, or Gang Starr, one hears complex arrangements of sound. Sometimes they are combined with lyrics; all of it designed to elicit a meaningful response in us. It can take us places far away in hope, to make us feel alive and tap to the beat, or into the very pit of the artist's soul because they wish to share their pain or understanding of life.

Sports although inspiring, painful, and nerve-wracking at times cannot capture and propel to the same degree.

Good thing you can still do that AND listen to music if you want to, according to the poll.
