on the astros instead of Jimy Williams who would it be? dont be smart and give me someone thats dead or retired.. joe torre is my choice
I would say Pena, but I don't think his "rah rah" attitude would have worked in this clubhouse. However, I wish we could have him back in 2006 or so, when our lineup will be significantly younger.
I wouldn't mind having Art Howe back. I've always thought Larussa was a great manager too. I hesitate to bring in AL managers, because w/o the DH they have to make a few more critical decisions with the bullpen and pinch hitters. But if we are going to be bringing in alot of new kids, i might actually prefer to stick with Jimmy. He does alot of training with the young guys that you don't see older managers do. Plus you know they won't give him any crap or they'll get benched just like Hidalgo had been.
Personally, I'd think Dusty is the worst possible manager for this Astros staff. His overworking of pitchers scares me. And I'm glad he's managing Wood and Prior instead of Oswalt and Miller. I really don't have a choice, because I don't really know too much about all the managers.
Tony LaRussa = Jimy Williams. Both over manage during games. They think making a move is always better.
making moves isnt bad, as long as they are calculated. larussa has had as much success as hes had for as long as hes had because his style works. he micromanages the game, always knows exactly whats going on, hes really, a field general out there, jimmy on the other hand, has no idea about about whats going on out there on the field as long as he gets everyone in the game. he would be a great little league manager.
I've always thought that Lou Piniella was a pretty good manager. Art Howe had a laid back style, not unlike Larry Dierker, which has its pros and cons. Mike Scoscia performed a miracle with the 2002 Angels.
