Just curious on how people view gasol. This really hitches on rox getting howard and lakers deciding to rebuild. The rockets still have young talent oversees and on the roster. Pau only have 1yr left on his contract. When sir shoot a lot was out, pau and howard played well together. Watching how well duncan is still playing,I believe Pau has 5 yrs of 16ppg 9rebs 4asst 1.5blks left in him. They can resign him for about 10-12m per and continue to develop Jones. What do y'all think?

I'll trade Asik to Lakers for Pau Gasol + Every first round and second round pick non-protected for the next five years. Pau Gasol isn't worth it.

they do well with pau in the high post. as an expiring contract i'd be interested in him for a year... i'd need to look at who could replace him in FA next year though

Am I giving up Asik? If so, then no.

Am I giving up Lin? If so, then yes.

Why would the Lakers, after they lose Howard, take on 2 2-year contracts and diminish their 2014 cap space with a cap hit of $16m and a payout of way more than that for role players before they secure star players?

Heck, I would do it. But there is 0 chance the Lakers do it.

Gasol's contract would mandate trading both Lin and Asik, or trading one of them and somehow getting a ton of money back. Realistically you're getting rid of both to get him...

Honestly that's a tough call...I'd be 50/50, but probably stick with Lin & Asik because the team really suffered from a lack of depth last year, and getting rid of two starter-caliber players is just going to exacerbate that problem.

Lin provides some depth at both guard positions, and Asik prevents the team from dropping like a rock just because Howard goes down (he also prevents a Howard injury in the first place by not forcing him to be overused).

Gasol could actually work as a combo C/PF, so he would somewhat replace Asik, but who are the backup guards if Beverley/Harden go down on that team?

Pretty much need to give up both given the salaries involved.

Not gonna happen since Lakers not taking substantial 2014 salary back.
