The worst GM in the NBA, Toronto's Glen Grunwald, got a three year extension from the Toronto Raptors that will reportedly make him one of the highest paid GM's in the league. Geez!
Unfortunately, he is not the worst. He's a jerk and I think, in many ways, his strategy will have him shooting himself in the foot. But, his built a pretty decent team. There are quite a few teams that should wish they had the personnel Grunwald put together. I understand the sentiment though and do wish him ill.
Jeff, I'm not sure if your ill-will against Grunwald is due to the way he has treated the Rockets, but I cannot comprehend how anyone could view him as the worst GM in the league. If you just said that over anger, then just kindly disregard this post. As JuanValdez said, the guy has designed a very respectable team in Raptorland, and he does deserve some props for that. Not only has he built a good team, but when he took over, the team was in shambles. When Isiah bolted for the $ at NBC, the Raps had a franchise player threatening to jump ship, one of the worst records in the league, and players refusing to play for the team (you there Kenny Anderson?). Within the span of a year, he almost completely altered the team's direction. He drafted one of the leagues most exciting players and arguably the best of his class, acquired the league's three-point leader in Dee Brown, dealt for a couple of solid veterans in Charles Oakley and Kevin Willis, then went out and got three more in Dell Curry, Antonio Davis and Mugsey Bogues. There was talk of him getting the Exec of the year last year, and as much as I hate the Craptors, even I had to acknowledge his skills. They are seriously thinking play-offs here in Toronto and the team refuses to be labelled an expansion team anymore. Believe me Jeff, I wish I could agree with you on this one, but in my humble eyes, Grunwald ranks up there among the best. Azim da Dream ------------------ We are about to enter the millenium of the Rockets . . .
Plus, I think the Raptors redeemed themselves just a little by signing Willis to the extension. I felt bad about trading him to Toronto after he signed for less to be a Rocket. Now he'll get his due.
