Ideal Situation to get Dunleavy and proven Starter

The ideal situation is to get Mike Dunleavy Jr and a proven starter. Anybody who watched any of Duke's games last year has to see how good a player he is. He can rebound, defend, and has excellent offensive skills. He can drive, hit the jumper, and moves extremely well without the ball. Concerns about Jay Williams being the reason Dunleavy looked so good are crazy not to mention that there is no reason Francis can't do the same for him.

As big as everybody is on Yao, Eddie Griffin has to potential to be just a great. There is no reason why he can't bulk up and play center. You can't always assume, "He can't guard Shaq. He is not fit enough to be a center." Nobody can guard Shaq. Outside of Shaq, with a few more pounds, Griffin can bang down low against the likes of Vlade, Duncan, and LaFrentz.

Rocks must find a team willing to trade up to Get Yao or JWill and get a proven starter. So far, the names being brought up are not the players we are looking for. Jamison, Sprewell, Marion, Odom all demand the ball. Scoring is not an issue with Cat, Stevie, and Griffin. We need guys like Horry who play tough defense and score when they absolutely need too.

your topic is an oxymoron. there is no ideal situation that has dunleavy anywhere near it, except if you're talking about hiring his dad to replace Rudy.

    rw7183,

Your statement makes sense, but only if that proven starter is a young player that fills several of our needs (low post scoring, rebounding, shot blocking, defense). If the player duplicates our strengths without compensating for our weaknesses, then it's now a good idea. The problem is that to guarentee that you can get Dunleavy, then you can't drop farther than #3 in the draft, but Chicago or GS don't really have a guy that fits that bill (sorry, I'm not a Jamison fan).

2 seasons ago, we were very close to making the playoffs.

This past season, we really never had a chance because of the injuries.

Drafting Ming is a risk worth taking. We could still be a playoff team if some of our players return healthy and contribute in positive ways like in Mo Taylor and Rice.

Eddie will have a year under his belt, Mobley will continue to improve as will KT, and Francis, hopefully, will be over the migraines.

That team can still make the playoffs as an 8 or 7 seed. Add Ming and let him develop along with Eddie and it goes from a 7 or 8 seed to one that will really compete for a deep run in the playoffs in a couple of seasons.

I really feel that you have to take that risk in drafting Ming.

You know I have been thinking the same thing about Steve Francis. All he needs to do is add a foot in height and a 100 lbs and he would be the most dominant NBA 5 ever.

I'm not sold on Dunleavy. We're better off trading the pick for another top pick and Odom, or Marion or something.
