(sigh) So Houston is reduced to constructing a swimming hole? Well, I guess it beats jumping in the bayou.

This is a pretty cool idea, but I'm just afraid of the increased possibility of accidental drownings. Especially amongst the youth.

Sounds nice, but I would never go. Can you just imagine the mass of humanity that would be in that hole every summer?

One reason it will not ever ever be like Barton Springs is water quality. Springs are found in limestone systems that filter the water. Our bayous flow though muddy clay soils, and contain all kinds of "urban" run off. Also shifting clay mud bottoms will never be as safe or attractive as a rocky bottom.

There are some sand pit lakes that you could use by filtering the water like the one in Bass Park, but basically for Houston, your just talking about building a swimming pool; there are no natural equivlents

great idea. I like it. If Houston can build the ship channel, this is childsplay.

Would be nice, but the crowds would ruin it.

Look, I'm all for it. It just seems that with our water quality, flooding and shallow natural water table, you are building a swimming pool. At a depth of 4 or 5 feet you'd have to seal it off from the ground water and you'd have to reinforce the soil under it... swimming pool.

You might just build a lazy river or water park. Herman or Memorial Parks seem the spot and you have planning groups doing millions of dollars of improvement plans now.

Lol. There's like 20 people there and they're all white. Not exactly what I'm picturing. Just not a good idea for a city this size.

Discovery Green has been a hit.

This should be the same. The amount of civil engineers in this City should make a project like this a breeze to make.

From my understanding of this swimming hole there will be no filtration once the public has access to it.
