I can agree that it sounds more "unintelligent", but your first comment was just wrong. It's not the same kind of problem as simply being grammatically incorrect (i.e., a mistake like "your" vs "you're" or "there" vs. "their" vs. "they're").
Welcome, Bob. We agree that Beverly isn't dirty, but I think we all also agree with the idea that he is pesky and probably irritates the hell out of the people he guards because he plays hard on every play. The Westbrook play ended poorly, but I don't think anyone here thinks he intended to injure him, and we'd all be disappointed if he quit trying so hard on defense. Had he been on another team and done that to one of our stars, many here would probably be mad and call him dirty, but most here that are worth their salt are more intelligent about basketball than that. Right, y'all? Dude comes in and lets us know he A) likes Beverly and B) is now a fan of our team and SacTown goes Swoly on the guy, and on with the "you come off as unintelligent, no disrespect" angle. Planet Earth's a nice place, except it's lousy with these 'people' creatures. Clutchfans, one of the best fan sites on the web, is a microcosm of this.
