Looks like 'Los is coming along nicely, he made his second start last night and pitched 5.2 innings giving up 1 run and 4 hits, with 1 walk and 1K. He's now 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA allowed 7 hits, struck out 5 and walked 3. On the other hand, Taylor Bucholz hasn't looked very good at all, he's 0-2 with 6.52 ERA with 5 Ks and 5 walks.
He should have been the 5th starter for the Astros. The guy is a stud if healthy. do you remember how dominate he was when he first came up?
Hunsicker said his velocity was 'not there' in CH's 1st start. I'm rooting for the guy -- he was a stud at the outset. Get healthy, man!
Sheesh, will you people please get off his jock? It's getting nauseating how you people hype this guy. He's not that good. I saw him pitch plenty of games where he stunk up the joint, but I guess you guys will always have an excuse for that.
He will not get called up until his velocity comes back and it might take a long time to recover the arm strength he lost from the surgery so...... give him time.
So tell me this - do you believe or think that Tim Redding is better than Carlos? If you want to talk about hyper-hype - look straight at Timothy. CArlos is "destined" and it is only a matter of time.
Carlos has amazing stuff. It's that simple. The smartest baseball guys I know...the ones who actually played baseball on the major league level...say that this guy is a star waiting to happen...and lament his injury. What I saw of the guy very early in his career was extremely promising.
As far as I am concerned this guy defintely deserves a shot based on what he did when he first came up. I remember Peter Gammons talking about how great he though 'Los was gonna be before he ever pitched in the majors, and he certainly did not dissapoint in his first couple starts. Let's just hope him and the rest of the Astros pitchers decide to take an out before going in for a slide. The last thing I want to see is Clemens sliding into home plate with the catcher blocking the plate. It's just not worth the risk.
They should have told him not to slide into second head first. Do you guys realize that injury was three years ago?
I really hope the guy recovers, but if it doesn't happen this year, I think I'm giving up hope. As far as his ability is concerned he reminded a lot of Hampton the way he kept the ball low in the strike zone, but I never thought his stuff was exceptional. I'll take Redding's talent, just wish we could switch their heads.
i have a client who was a member of the 86 Astros...he says he thinks Hernandez's stuff is among the best he's ever seen from such a young pitcher.
Dantrel made the same mistake (sliding head first at home plate for that matter) last week or so but he did not pay for it. I hope these guys learn that they are payed to pitch not run the bases like Ricky or field like Andruw.
