Those back to backs might've been ratings poison, but it was one of the last pure moments the league had.

Maybe they started rigging in earnest when they feared cinderella stories would ruin their soap drama.

They put Lakers 2002 as the 3rd toughest path. lol tell that to any Kings fan on how earned that was.

Anyone that follows NBA history should know this. A 6th going all the way to win it all.

    This part also got me:
"It’s a shame they weren’t even mentioned in The Last Dance, even though they were champions when Michael Jordan made his midseason return to the NBA."

The Rockets will never get the credit they deserve for winning back to back Championships. They will always be considered just accidents or place holders in the midst of Jordan's run even though Jordan was there in 1995. Also that those Rockets dominated Jordan's Bulls head to head. Even MJ said that the Rockets were the toughest opponent they faced.

Who here remembers how you had to actually pay per view the playoff games during the championship run?

Truth. The NBA was rigged after 95.

The players of the era and true aficionados will acknowledge it. Everyone else is just a pleb fan.

I don’t even see what’s arguable about it. NBA media and fans act like it never happened tho

    Nothing arguable about it.

As to purity since then, I'll just say eyebrows were raised when the Knicks went down in 7 after si and others had already printed Knicks championship covers. Eyebrows really went up after the new "face" team of the NBA cratered and went down in 4 to a team with a star payer who wasn't much for ads and was never and would never be on SNL.

When we say people underestimate those championships, it's true. But even when we say it, I think many of us (myself included at times) don't recognize all the levels beyond the scores where those championships were both improbable and special.

1989 Detroit Pistons beating Celtics Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, D Johnson

Bulls Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, Phil Jackson, Tex Winter

    Lakers Magic Johnson.

Pistons Isaiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman had the Best Path to Beat the Great Teams.

Boston was 42-40 with a 12th net rating
Milwakee was 49-33 with Terry Cummings as their best scorer.
Bulls 47-35 and hadn't hit their stride yet.
Lakers were 57-25 with Magic and 41 year old Kareem.

Also the Pistons were a 63-win team with homecourt advantage throughout.

Gotta disagree with you on that one (unless you mean easiest then my misunderstanding), The Rockets ran the greatest gauntlet IMO. Fantastic run every series

First round 60 win Utah Jazz, second round 59 win Phoenix Suns, WCF 62 win Spurs, championship 57 win Orlando Magic (sweep) -- that is the greatest playoff run of all time.

This should be the Best Run by a superstar in history.
