I just watched the movie The Fighter. Sorry, I guess I don't rush to the box office for Marky Mark flicks; however, the movie was pretty good. It inspired me to look up the first fight between "Irish" Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti. Here are the four parts to that fight on youtube: <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MAM7bqTsQOY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5ndlR4kubKQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pGlws9YXVAM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zXnQlXn2at4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I now believe this to be the greatest fight ever. It's not the most important fight ever (Joe Louis vs. Max Shmeling, most fights involving Ali), but it may be the best. Prior to seeing this, I thought Arguello vs. Pryor 1 was the best fight I had ever seen. Those guys beat the hell out of each other for 14 rounds. Leonard vs. Hagler is another classic. I think Hagler vs. Hearns is overrated. It starts with maybe the greatest first round in history, but then Hearns is totally out matched for the next round and a half. It's a mismatch that Hagler wins easily. So, chime in... What was the greatest fight of all time?

Man, I was watching Ward v Gatti fight on HBO with a free cable box back in the day. Those were true slugfests.
Thrilla in Manila (Ali-Frazier III). <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yRth-5w0Lt8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Both past their primes. Both slowed enough by age (/Vietnam protest) not to be able to dodge their opponents' blows. You can watch each contestant beating each other senseless for the entire fight, to the point of, respectively, (A) Parkinson's-like dementia and (B) a lifetime of slurred speech and slowed reaction time. Neither would ever be the same. It is the greatest fight I've ever seen, and also the most illuminating about the tragic nature of both the sport, and also fandom of the sport. One is both thrilled by the event, and finds oneself complicit in its consequences, with each viewing.
You didn't specify real, sports, whatever, so.... <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EsZpdUUdd3I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Dempsey vs. Firpo One of the fights that is ranked high on most lists is the 1923 bout between Jack Dempsey and Angel Firpo at the Polo Grounds. I'm not sure it's really a great fight, but it is pretty funny watch. How often do you get to see 11 knockdowns in 2 rounds? Apparently, it used to be legal to punch your opponent as soon as he started to stand back up. Enjoy. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9NN0vGHnCLo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This is the fight that changed me from a huge boxing fan to being revolted by the sport. <object width="425" height="349"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ThQFPJpVtK8?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ThQFPJpVtK8?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
