Damn, he was doing pretty well too...

    ===============================================

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7754622/report-phoenix-suns-forward-grant-hill-needs-knee-surgery

Phoenix Suns forward Grant Hill could be done for the season with a meniscus tear in his right knee that requires surgery, the Arizona Republic reported Friday.

Hill, the oldest player in the league at age 39, underwent arthroscopic surgery in September on the knee. He will have the procedure Friday morning, and likely will be out until at least mid-April, the Republic reported.

Hill is averaging 10.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 29.2 minutes per game for the Suns (25-26). He has missed just five games this season; the team is 1-4 without him in the lineup.

Phoenix is two games out of the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"He's our glue guy," Suns guard Jared Dudley said Wednesday night, according to the newspaper. "He calms us defensively. He's the best defensive player. He's the one who guarded Chris Paul at home and slowed him down. Offensively, he is efficient and gets out on the break and that makes other people guard him and open up 3-pointers. He posts up and makes the extra pass."

There goes Phoenix in the race. Down to 9 teams for 8 spots.

But that sucks for Grant hill. He was playing really well this season. Great defense. Such a smart player (I was hoping T-Mac would settle into a similar role).

He's a player that I think everyone wants to see succeed.

Grant Hill was a monster early in his career.

He would be what Lebron would be compared to today if Hill stayed healthy.

You think the Pistons could have won a championship if Hill never got injured and they build around him?

Nope. Hill didn't want to stay in Detroit. He signed with the Magic instead (who ironically traded Ben Wallace as a throw in for the sign and trade deal). Wallace would then lead the Pistons to a championship.

Hill's comeback in Suns has been a miracle. It shows how good fundamental can make a good basketball player. TMac's just the opposite.

Well he got the most of his career despite of all the injuries. Enjoy your retirement Grant.

And this guy would make a good commentator, much better than some of the tools we have out there today.

Sad to hear. He is one of the rare players who rebound back from multiple career-threatening injuries and do well.

Statistically the only guys close to lebron are wilt and MJ. Even is his prime Hill wasn't putting up PERs in the 30s, also he never got his team out of the first round as a primary super star. Lebron has always taken his team past the 1st round. He is a lot like Tmac in a way.

Hill, McGrady, and Hardaway. They are all so similar. Lol.

I totally agree with your last point, but don't count him out for next year just yet. Someone who does it the right way like Hill does, isn't done til he calls for the fork.

I remember growing up as a kid Grant Hill was the one of the most popular players, the kind of player Stern surely must always pray to God for: He was elite, had style but at the same time was a team player, class act and role model. At his peak I think he should have a spot in the roster of the team of the 90's. It was a shame he was stuck with a mediocre team while in his prime.

The Morris twin on the Suns puts up a lot of air balls.
