The internet is a series of tubes.

    https://deadline.com/2024/04/net-neutrality-approved-fcc-vote-1235893572/

Major internet providers once again will have to abide by a set of robust rules of the road, prohibiting them from blocking or throttling traffic, as the FCCtoday reinstated net neutrality regulations.

The commission voted 3-2 along party lines to adopt the rules, which broadly prohibit Comcast, AT&T, Verizon and other providers from favoring some types of internet traffic over others.

The latest net neutrality rules resemble those adopted in 2015, when the FCC voted to reclassify internet service like a common carrier, or the same regulatory designation given to phone service. The commission, with a majority of Democratic members, sought reclassification as a way to give the FCC the regulatory authority to establish significant net neutrality rules.

Not really a blow to ISPs. The industry by and large isn’t engaging in throttling or similar behavior. This action is a solution in search of a hypothetical problem that doesn’t really exist. Major ISPs worked w FCC on the rules and support the prohibition of throttling and similar actions.

I haven't had traditional internet in about 7 years or so, since I live in the booties, but I've certainly had ISPs that throttle.

7 years ago? Sure. Industry has changed significantly. There is way more fiber in the ground and way more subsidies to build out in expensive areas. Not to mention many of the ISPs that owned video service too have spun those off or exited that market.
