I've got gmail and recently was just checking my SENT MAIL and to my surprise I had 8 multiple emails sent out the same time to random looking addresses with the following: "heyyy i saw your craigslist listing and you probably aren't even a real person but if you are and you really look like that, add me as a friend and maybe we have alot in common http://www.TellThemOnline.net?profile_id=kelly_m7" WTF IS THIS? how did those mofos access my gmail and send out spam to other emails, this is slightly worrying and I was wondering what steps I am able to take to help prevent this from happening in future? Has anyone else experienced anything like this before?
When you are logged in to your gmail account you can see your current IP address. Clicking on the "details" link will show you the last 5 accesses to your account.
Are you always using https? (In the settings screen, all the way down at the bottom) That's a start, in case you weren't already using it.
Unfortunately I have logged in 5 times or more since whoever accessed my account did so.. and as for meggoleggo's suggestion of enabling the option of 'Always use https', well I guess I've made a start now... thanks. Quite strange though, I'm curious how they got access to my email, I never give it out or sign up or register for anything silly I find it strange that emails meant to lure Americans/Canadians (is that where Craiglist is based? I'm not sure) have anything to do with me as I'm Australian.
