It is definitely good and it does matter. Do people remember the kinds of moves we suffered through under Rudy and CD? Big contracts handed out to the likes of Kelvin Cato, Shandon Anderson, Moochie Norris, and Mo Taylor. Drafting players like Eddie Griffin, Boki Nachbar, Rodrick Rhodes, Mirsad Turksan, and Bryce Drew. Passing on Rashard Lewis 3 times. Letting a future 2-time champion player like James Posey walk. Morey's made his share of blunders, but he's a freaking genius compared to his predecessors.
HOUSTON – Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander announced today that General Manager Daryl Morey has signed a four-year contract extension. Morey is now under contract with the Rockets through the 2021-22 season. “Daryl has consistently proven to be one of the top minds and innovators in our league,” said Alexander. “I’m thrilled to continue to work with Daryl towards our pursuit of winning another championship for the Rockets, the City of Houston, and our fans all over the world.” Morey recently completed his 11th full season with the Rockets and his 10th as the team’s head of basketball operations. He officially assumed his current position on May 10, 2007 after originally joining the organization as Assistant General Manager on Apr. 3, 2006.
I must admit a little bit of the same feeling. I like Morey - but he has as many misses as hits.....and we honestly flip the roster too danged much. It does make it more exciting for those that care about contracts and budgets, but for me who only cares about winning and losing - don't really care about salary cap - just win baby - it sort of is a wash. Morey has a plan, I am still not convinced his plan works, hoping to be wrong. DD
The dude picked Marcus Morris over Kawhi Leonard. Why would anyone give this guy a 4 year extension is past me.
The problem is there will be no championship with Morey on the seat, as how things changed in this team in the last decade.
Translation: Triple cheeseburger has done just about enough to keep us afloat and ensure we have the 3rd most winningest record in the regular season over the last 10 years. And that makes us a destination franchise.
I think it might work but it aint spectacular to me, not including high draft picks and good drafting..... that plan of his is a letdown for me.
What a joke. The amount of times Morey and the front office have proved you wrong over the last 10 years is truly astonishing. Maybe try and appreciate the fact that your favourite team has an intelligent, dilligent and dedicated front office that is uncomprimised in its efforts to get a championhip. Have a look around the league: David Griffin's firing, Phil Jackson, SVG/DocRivers, Vlade Divac etc. The rockets consistently run rings around teams like this because they care about contracts and budgets. The devil IS in the detail. If you're front officce isnt elite at managing the finer points of the cap, and constantly probing the rules for a better strategy, dont expect to 'just win baby' any time soon.
I don't get the same feeling at all. Mainly because Morey has shown he knows what's happening. McHale never showed that. Dude was straight up incompetent 100% of the time. And the one time Morey did keep the roster the same, we had a largely underwhelming season right after making the WCF. On one hand I can understand why he's constantly trying to improve. It's not like we have the nucleus of the Warriors that doesn't require any tinkering. It doesn't matter what plan Morey has any more. No matter what it is it isn't going to be successful with the Warriors juggernaut rolling along. At the end of the day with that in mind, I'm very happy someone like Morey is in charge as opposed to someone like Phil Jackson.
I don't not like it. But I probably would have preferred a shorter, prove-it deal geared toward putting pressure on him to win now. I'm not clamoring for his firing by any means, RC Buford isn't walking through that door if he leaves.
We have been winning lately. We won 54, 56 and 55 games 3 of the last 4 seasons. Two of those seasons we overachieved greatly when you look at the roster/injuries. There's literally been one season in his entire tenure where we underachieved. No one is winning anything besides GS these next few years, it's foolish to judge based off that.
