Mattress Mack is madly dashing around his house, trying to locate his superhero outfit and cape so he can come to the rescue.

I still want to hear more from the C-Suite execs that post on this forum to chime in. The CEOs that posted on page 1 of this thread got me 98% convinced that this practice is irrational in the business world....I just need that extra 1% to get to that Basketballholic 99% Special.

People still have this fantasy that we could've dipped into lux tax to pay for Nik Stauskas to put us over the edge. Or that we could've traded Brandon Knight and Marqueese Chris for Bazemore and Dedmon.

Morey has played his limited hand well so far. I will change my tune about cheapness and lux tax if there's an actual needle moving transaction that we choose not to make. For now, there was even an unknown trade with Miami that was canceled at the last second, and our failed attempt at Morris, which show some willingness to chase risk.

I just want to know the difference between cutting costs and "feverishly" cutting costs.

I know someone else has mentioned that this might be clickbait, and it might, but Brian has in the past been a reliable source for NBA “insider” news. Most recently he was the main reporter who got the Kawhi/Spurs situation from Kawhi’s side. So I’m not as reluctant to say that he’s trying to get clicks.

That being said, I do think that until more local reporters do verification it’s not worth being extra concerned about yet. Whatever changes that are happening are currently front office, and if Tilman was going to make team cuts he can’t until after the season.

The one thing people should remember is that he was willing to rehire Jeff Blzdelik and give him a pay raise as well as sign the Chris Paul deal. Even though I’m not as optimistic as some will be, there hasn’t been enough information on either side to suggest he will gut anything on the player/coach side. All we can and should do for now is root on the Rockets this season as much as possible and wait for more information from more regular Rockets insiders and beat reporters.

It's when you're cutting costs at 100+ F body temperature.

exactly. I seriously wonder who feeds all these ridiculous notions that gets posted. Is there that many badly informed people out there and then they just choose to run with the silly narratives just because. I'd like to think people would like to focus more on truths but apparently not

I'm in the same boat. Until I see clear cut, stupid roster move that wasn't done to be make this team better, all this pocket watching money talk is just dumb. And no, keeping the likes of knight/chriss to pay lux tax does not qualify as the all in

I was under the impression that Tillman is just a cheapskate. It's not that he's low on money, it's that his first move with any business he gets involved in is to chop expenses down as far as he can. It's like that guy who runs Marvel...Ike Perlmutter?...who supposedly would screech if he found that people were taking paperclips from the office to use at home or using the office coffee machine too often. Some of these guys are just insane about penny-pinching.

If you bought a business for $1,000 and you found out that of that $1,000, $200 can be saved by cutting needless expenditures, wouldn't you, as the new business owner, make that one of your primary initiatives? Or would you just say, "well we've always paid for it so I guess I'll continue to pay for it."?

i appreciate the perspective from @Will and agree it's best to wait and get more details

but from my perspective, the first thought i had was that tilman might be seeing softness in his core businesses right now (restaurants/hotels/casinos) and for this reason might be downsizing in anticipation of an overall weaker market affecting arena revenue

heres an example, not what the thread is referring to but if you follow the team you would get the reference

Trading a player for tax savings vs spending multiple picks to trade a player for tax savings when that player would be much easier to trade off next year
