Pure speculation. This article mentions the Stros needing Moisos Alou. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3831980
No way does Alou give up playing for his dad in SF to come back to Houston. SF is supposed to be his final destination before he calls it a career.
It all depends on how badly he wants to win. If the price wasn't too steep, I'd rent Alou out and play him in LF for the rest of the season. Taveras CF Biggio 2B Berkman 1B Ensberg 3B Alou LF Lane RF Everett SS Ausmus C Interesting nonetheless.
This guy says in the article that Jeff Kent should be traded to the Twins. Is it me or didn't he just sign a contract with the Dodgers? Why would his name come up in trade talks?
i tend to agree. i don't think moises has some championship fire burning in him so strongly that he'd leave the situation he has with his father in SF.
Only if his dad sat him down and said if you want to try and go out a winner then go ahead but I do not think thats going to happen.
yeah..and i'm wondering if there might be some reluctance on the Giants' part to even explore that, given the fact he's the coach's son. seems like that would be an extra hurdle.
Because he makes around 9 million a year. Because the Dodgers may want prospects in order to build for the future. Because it happens all the time. Because the Twins desperately need an offensive boost. Because the Twins could offer a solid left handed reliever in J. C. Romero. Because Kent is not a likeable guy off the field. Because he probably doesn't have a no-trade clause.
I know Alou wouldn't want to leave but it would be nice to have his bat back in the lineup. That move alone should make us the wildcard favorite.
I wouldn't want either of them... The current Lefty/Righty platoon of Palmeiro and Lane is fine in right and Biggio is doing great as usual... I'd rather trade for a quality left hander for the bullpen. I'd love to have Manny Ramirez's bat, but I don't want his attitude, and I certainly wouldn't want to give up some of our future stars for him.
The guy who wrote this article is the worst sports writer I've ever seen. He said about a week ago or so that the Astros were not a contender, so he didn't include them on the "list of contenders and needs" article. He also ranked us behind the Brewers ion his power rankings at the time. The only reason this guy gets read is because he writes what people want to hear - trade rumours, speculation, etc. - around the trade deadline.
The more I think about it the more I like it, provided that you didn't have to give up too much. Alou is the guy I'd be least worried about messing up team chemistry because he's been around guys like Biggio, Bagwell, and Ausmus before. He and Bagwell are best friends. How is Schmidt doing this year and what does his salary look like. Off the top of my head, I wonder if we could try to swing a deal for both? I somewhat remember hearing rumblings that they were looking to move him, but I'm not sure why.
