He's about where AJ Reed is with more MLB plate appearances. Without much trade value, what else could Atlanta do if they needed the 40 man roster space? Likewise, AJ Reed being DFA'd wouldn't surprise me much for the Astros (presuming they need his 40 man spot and can't find a willing trade partner).
Ruiz is younger and has defensive value. Also, I don’t think he’s out of options. I was surprised that he didn’t have trade value.
There's only a one year age difference... wasn't about options, it was about getting potential rule 5 losses on the 40 man roster.
Dallas Keuchel and Evan Gattis; still unsigned on opening day. Dallas needs to accept he's not getting Ace pitcher money and take a 2-3 year deal.
Not for past performance though. No front office is doing much of that anymore. He's worth about what he got in his final arbitration years... and not for more than 2-3 years at this point.
I feel bad for Gattis, I always liked that guy. Dallas should get paid by somebody. Saw in the paper today that the average salary has gone down 2 years in a row. ~100K or so, I don't like it at all.
That's at least an 80 win squad depending who the arms are. Could they get a wild card spot with the Astros' pitching? thanks for the list,
Only Martinez would be an everyday player for Houston. But aside from Villar, Grossman, and Ruiz, I think every one of those players would make Houston's 25 man roster.
You don't think Laureano would be the starting CF? I'm not sold on him being a plus bat but league average at the plate is a reasonable expectation along with solid CF defense and excellent base running.
I'm not expecting Laureano to hit like he did last season, but he looked like a defender in CF. Provided he doesn't go Marisnick with the bat, I think Astros would play him in the OF. I think Astros would throw him, Zobrist, and Hernandez in the OF with Brantley sliding to the DH.
It’s hard to say. But yes, thinking about it more, Laureano at this point would probably be in CF with Springer/Reddick/Brantley shifting to RF/LF/DH respectively and White or Kemp losing their roster spot. Of course had Laureano not been traded he probably would not have been able to establish himself like he did last season. Maybe I’m underselling a few of those guys. I could see an argument that both Hernandez’s, Martinez, Zobrist, Santana, and maybe even Marwin and Fowler might all start in LF or DH.
Charlie ****ing Morton Jordan Lyles Joe Musgrove Dan Straily? Not Jarred Cosart (sorry @MadMax) Dude's got a hose, I had no idea he was that good in the OF while he was with us.
Not completely up to date, but here are the former stros I think are in other big league rotations: Happ Fiers Morton Foltynewicz Velasquez Musgrove Lyles Trent Thornton Straily and Keuchel will be soon enough. Relievers: Melancon Giles Sipp Neshek Duke Perez Albers Hader Liriano Richard Rodriguez So here’s the current ex-stro 25 man: CF Laureano 2B Zobrist DH JD Martinez RF Santana SS Marwin 3B E Hernandez LF Fowler C Castro 1B Ruiz Bench: Villar, T Hernandez, McCann Rotation: Folty, Morton, Happ, Musgrove, Velasquez Bullpen: Fiers, Lyles, Thornton, Sipp, Neshek, Melancon, Giles, Hader
At least Daz Cameron has turned into a player, so we didn't totally fleece them on that deal. Oh, and if anyone's a glutton for punishment, Nolan Ryan just struck out Pete Rose to lead off Game 5 of the '80 NLCS on espn classic. Keith Jackson doing pbp, the Dome is rocking.
