I think it's pretty clear given their interest in the draft (Amen Thompson) and free agency (Harden, FVV, Kyrie Irving) that the Rockets no longer view KPJ as their pg of the future. So, fellow Rockets nerds, what's your plan to address that spot? You've got draft capital and cap room to burn. Mine: Trade KMJ to Indiana for TJ McConnell and pick #26. - McConnell is 31 years old, 6'1", 190 - 8 year vet who has averaged 22 mins/game over his career in Philly and Indiana - shot 44% from distance last season (albeit on low volume) and shot 85% from the stripe - 2.5 assist/to Draft Amen Thompson at #4. Sign Jevon Carter - 27 years old, 6'1", 200 lbs - started 39 games for #1 seed in the east - played for Budenholzer (pop guy like udoka) - 42% 3pt on 4 att/game and 81% ft - 2 assist/to - former defensive poy at west virginia Carter starts and us spelled by McConnell while Thompson gets acclimated to the NBA. KPJ would do some point forwarding in this scenario too along with Sengun doing his thing. I just think this is a realistic option to really improve that spot drastically.
I agree. It looks to be about 90% that we will get Amen at this point. I dont mind either if your suggestions. Id love to get Davion Mitchell but nit sure what it would cost. Im also open to maxing FVV for 2years with a buyout/team option on 3rd year. Even if Amen plays well earlier than expected, FVV could play off ball a bit.
Eason, Martin & Christopher (#20 if needed) For FRP#10. => Wallace Dallas wants ready to play players. We need a solid 2 way lead guard to help with our younger team. I like Carter as a mentor to Wallace. Carter is also obtainable, too.
This actually gives us what we need without totally blowing our salary. Carter is a sleeper at point guard.
I like the idea of signing Carter to start the first 20 games or so before amen takes over the job. assuming we miss on harden and fvv first. I like the KJM for McConnell/26, but I don't think we need another first round pick this year. and we probably don't need both Carter and McConnell. I would probably choose one or the other.
There's a free agent point guard that people aren't really talking about. Finals experience, still relatively young, coming from an incredible culture, great defender and shooter, shouldn't be too expensive and won't demand too many minutes. Gimme Gabe Vincent. Edit: lol so the guy right before me likes him too.
Run the offense through Sengun and you don't even need a point guard.... Sengun can pretty much play any position if not all positions at once. Quick footwork, great agility and pin point passing skills. Pair that with insanely high IQ and size and you have a unicorn. I'm not saying make him the official point guard, The Rockets still need someone to bring the ball up and pass it to Sengun but he is the solution most of The Rockets problems...
Udoka moved Marcus Smart to Point Guard and then traded Schroder to Houston. Then brought in 6'5" Brogdon to back up Marcus Smart. Tells you what Udoka favors: strong body frame to set screens, pass some, rebound some, facilitate some.
My point guard target is Derrick White. I was super down on him since he was drafted but I think he’s developed into a good 2-way point guard. Assuming his shooting improvement is not a fluke, and assuming the Celtics are reasonable, I think he’s a great trade target. A perfect lead PG with a strong prospect behind him (scoot or amen). Boston has to trade at least one guard this summer. I think they are a natural trade partner and it would be much better than paying high30’s for Harden or FVV.
Trade for DeWinddie or Conley Two 20million expiring contracts. Nice easy one year rental for Amen or KPJ to take back over. Possible resign one of them for a bench role
Let's be honest here. Your moves DID NOT "fix" the PG position. There is a reason someone like Brogden is making over 20 million dollars the next 2 seasons. There is also a reason KPjr (flawed though he is) is making nearly 20mill this year (though only counting 15.5 to the cap due to rest - erm, I mean injuries). Compared to the scenario you drew up, we are better off letting KPjr start and then waiving him next year (for free) if Thompson develops nicely. (There are a host of other options too)
Agree that a trade for one of the Celtics PGs makes sense need to sign or trade for starting PG. amen can learn coming off the bench for 1-2 years. Free Agent preference: 1. Austin Reaves 2. FVV ….. 3. Harden 4. Irving Trade preference: 1. Marcus Smart 2. Dejounte Murray 3. Derrick White 4. Mike Conley 5. Malcolm Brogdon
