All I want to know is who is the one who thought BOB would make a great head coach? What did they make their decisions on?

Refs decided that game, they had pass interference by both teams but they only called it on 49ers because it was Ray Lewis last game so they want him to finish with a ring. Just like the refs favor the Steelers against the Seahawks because they wanted Bettis to get a ring in his last game.

Posted it in the game thread, but the first quarter struggles have been a thing the whole season. Bill O'Brien's scripted plays to start the game aren't working.

This team has had a a couple impressive wins this season, but a couple of terrible losses as well. A first round bye this year could've been completely doable if the Texans beat the teams they were supposed to beat.

If the Texans still win the division, the owners will likely see this season as a success. So Bill O'Brien probably won't be going anywhere. If he does stay, please hire a new offensive coordinator.

A young, mobile QB in Watson with plenty of weapons. Time to get a new innovative offensive coordinator. I thought the perfect time to do that was Watson's rookie year, or at least second.

Because he was on new England. He didn't last as oc there, but it was enough for the Texans to give him the keys

How many OCs/QB coaches does he get?
I mean, they're only OC in name or title (Billy is still the OC)...

    Himself
    George Godsey
    Himself
    Sean Ryan
    Tim Kelly/Carl Smith

    Ran 2 GMs off
    Fired OC.
    Fired STC.
Next he's gonna throw Romeo under the bus.

Believe me, I'd rather he doesn't stay. It just comes down to the ownership to make the right decisions. They've proven in the past that winning the division and not making it past the divisional round is good enough.

They pointed out a staggering statistic in the game... BOB's team has gone 19 games in a row (might be 20 now?) without an opening drive touchdown.

I’d prefer BOB to go away but like you stated if we win the division he aint going anywhere. Perhaps he will step away from coaching all together and screw up the franchise by being the Gm????
Better than nothing i suppose :(

    True

    What's your scale??

    Great
    Good
    Above Average
    Average
    Below average
    Bad
    Royce White

I couldn't rank Bill on any scale better than "average".

The fact his teams have mostly depended on defense before his said speciality, offense, is a major indictment.

Also.. when you consider his extra power of personnel, fans should be refunded some money just in good-faith if he returns next season. Discount tickets. Something.

He could improve, but how many sessons of baby steps.

Texans have won big games this season.... barely.

They've also been beaten, non-barely, multiple times.

    8-5 record with a +8 point-diff. Pathetic.

Payton was so obviously screwed in one game, so 5-8 turns 6-7.

The most obvious rebuttal is winning percentage.

All those guys are near .500..... O'Brien is .250 winning percentage in the postseason while getting beatdown 3 of 4 games. His lone is against a rookie making his 2nd start. Bill won somewhat convincingly, so there's that though.

    O'Brien's biggest distraction is point-diff.

Despite mostly playing in a weak division in his tenure... he's been the worst playoff time every season in point-diff.

I know you (and others) claim it doesn't matter, but we all know it does. That's why yall contradict yourselves when speaking it.

Sure, there's likely some teams that have won despite my point-diff hypothesis, but I'll bet the theory it's mostly true.

Case in point... Bobster's entire tenure

    Narrow victories with Wide defeats

And he isn’t going anywhere so here’s who needs to go.

Romeo by either a “promotion” or flat out fire him.

Mike devlin hopefully he’s finally fired

Anthony midget secondary has been bad for some years now.

If they miss the playoffs which is extremely possible no way he should survive this after completely going all in this year idc what type of capital we have got to go before he put this organization in state that makes players not even want to be here or come here

Everything is going like I thought it would

Texans put themselves in a difficult spot and fans get excited that somehow they were able to win the division after looking so bad. They finish with a 10-6ish record. O'Brien is safe. Again. Maybe they win a playoff game this time.

They are lucky their record is what it is, they on the season have only outscored opponents by 8 points. By contrast the Ravens have outscored their opponents by 195 points, the Patriots have by 170 points and the Titans even have outscored opponents by nearly 70 points.

    Multiple future draft picks gone.

3 picks....LOL. Other picks will be replace by Compensatory picks

    WRITE this down:

2020/2021 Texans have or will have these picks (official compensatory picks won't be announced til Feb/March...but the formula is known). Christian Covington may land a 5th or 6th round compensatory pick.

    2020:
    2nd round
3rd round (Compensatory - Kareem Jackson)
    3rd round (possible Compensatory)
    4th round (Miami)
    4th round
    5th round
    7th round.

2021: Free Agent losses will result in Compensatory picks, not known until who is lost (if Roby and Reader are lost...most likely 3rds for both. Mercilus...depends).

    3rd round
    4th round
    5th round
    6th round (Miami)
    6th round
    7th round

The last draft like 2021 resulted in: Justin Reid, TE Thomas, TE Akins, KeKe Coutee, Duke Ejiofor (Remember him, he will come back), and Peter Kalambayi LB (is getting more time without Cole).

If you scout and evaluate, you can do well in the later rounds.

I'm fine with average; it's anyone suggesting he's sub-average that bothers me.

Nobody is an offensive specialist without a QB. And I'd argue his offenses overachieved his first two years.

This is the NFL; not the BCS.

Is point differential a relevant stat in the NFL? Genuinely asking. Given it's smaller sample size, and how often the final score doesn't reflect the quality of the game...

He was screwed, yes - it does not mean he gets an automatic win. It didn't occur on the final, game-deciding play.

I'm not arguing he's better than any of those guys - making a larger point that even great coaches tend to get beat more often in the postseason.

Wait - what doesn't matter? Everything matters. The question is how much it matters. He's coached 92 regular season games and 4 postseason games. One tells a much more complete story than the other.

What's funny about this... in games started by Watson, the Texans have been involved in seven games with a point differential of 17+... and they're 6-1 in those games.

Fans very obviously want to bury their heads in the sand with BO'B; the outrage is often easy and lazy. The things they jump on him for are fairly common among virtually every NFL franchise not located in Massachusetts.

I understand that, and yes it is possible that the Texans pull a few starters and possibly even a pro bowler out of the next two drafts. However not having a #1 in the two drafts and no #2 in 2021 is a big deal. All we can do is play by averages.... and not having those picks should hurt the team in the future. Perhaps Tunsil turns into an All Pro..... time will tell.

As a leader he is above average. He keeps his team out of trouble and they typically play hard and are professionals. As a play caller or in game coach he is below average. He is very uninspiring.

Overall he is mediocre.... he gets points for having control of his team.

The Texans are 11th in offense this season with a healthy Watson.

Among division leaders, only the Packers are worse.

Yes it is a relevant stat. Over the last 25+ years only the Giants have won with a low point differential. Amazingly they did it twice..... but it is obviously statistically rare. So yes, in general terms it is a relevant statistic, especially when we are discussing a team with limited playoff success.

BOB likely gets another season no matter what and he isn't ALL bad, he just is at best a mixed bag. I think it is reasonable for a city to want better though. Houston has never even been to a Super Bowl and the BOB years have overall been blah.
