Honestly CH I don't know why you don't get Hollinger's point, you already answered it yourself. Let's break Sac's moves under Hollinger's hindsight:

1) Sac trades Nocioni and Martin for Boston's Ray Allen and low first round pick. This move clears more cap room than what the Kings cleared IRL.

2) Sac then trades Kenny T and Ray Allen for Knicks goodies and Jared Jeffries. They end up with same amount of salaries IRL because they got rid of Nocioni in the Celtics deal prior. Since you already pointed this out not sure why you're insisting the Kings didn't do this because they were cheap. They're paying the exact same salary.

I'm not sure the Kings didn't already think about this. Maybe they did (or thought of something similar) but there are a few factors to consider why they didn't do it:

1) Info barrier. The Knicks were involved with us the entire deadline, and the Celts were busy trying to get Eddie House. For the King deal to work, they have to get agreement with both the Celts and the Knicks first-something that's quite hard to do because those teams are already haggling with other teams already.

2) They might have gotten a different package of goodies from the Knicks. If you think about it, the Knicks deal wasn't bad at all. For what they lost, they cleared capspace and got two intriguing assets who may be a part of the team's future: Tmac and Sergio Rodriguez. Even if they flop out on the holy trio, Walsh can still go plan B and resign Tmac+ whatever FA they can get. That's probably not championship material, but Tmac+Amare+Lee or Tmac+Joe Johnson+Lee isn't half bad esp. for the weak East. Meanwhile Walsh and D'Antoni gets the fans off their back for the rest of the season, thanks to Tmac's all around performance.

However, if they got Ray-ray and KT then the situation would have been different. Ray Allen is half the player tmac is currently, he can't do anything anymore except shoot wide open shots. He won't wow the crowd, and he certainly isn't worth resigning unless for the very minimum at the end of the season. Also KT would have been useless, while Sergio at the very least could get a look as the Knicks need to upgrade Duhon's spot. So to Walsh, giving up so much assets purely just to get rid of Jeffries' contract seems unreasonable. If I were him I would just stick to dealing with the Rox, which is probably what happened. Either that, or he would give lower value for Sac (probably just offer either Hill and the swap, or the swap and the pick), in which case Sac might have preffered Landry+Noc+capspace over Jared+low boston pick+capspace+watered down Knicks goodies.

Yes he gets them some cap room (Which they get any ways...) but he would not be in their future plans.

ALSO how does he figure they could have got the same from NYK that we did? Did he forget midway into his article that the Knicks did not want to give all that up for Tmac...what makes him think they would give it up Allen and K.Thomas? Rockets FORCED the Knicks hand.
So basically, Kings are trading Kevin Martin for J.Hill+Jeffries+2 first round picks. I think he's reaching a bit with that Boston thing.

I think if Kmart was really on the market, he'd get offers from building teams...Not Boston would give the best offer. I know ESPN would LOVE for Boston to get Kmart, but it would be hard for a contender to part ways with a key player. It would likely be a team like Minny who could give the Kings a young player in return...but it was The Rockets who have been stacking up on young talent.

Ray Allen and Kmart in his hypothetical trade weren't traded for each other. It was basically Tmac against Ray Allen for NY. He's not reaching with the Boston thing, I would think Boston would jump at the chance to get Kmart and Noc (helps their depth) in return for Rayray. Otherwise, spot on.

Honestly I didn't think about Minny. Rather than trading with us or NY, Sac could have contacted Minny about a package getting either Big Al or Love. Minny needs a guard badly to go with their pgs and PFs, and Martin is young enough to grow with the guys they have and has a reasonable contract. Big Al or Love is an upgrade from Landry anyways so maybe that would have been Sac's mistake and not this.

I still think Morey's "we want Caron Butler and Haywood" stories were a ploy to cover our real agenda. I am sure if any other teams knew KM was on the market they would have at least tried.
