http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8246986/2012-nba-player-rankings-401-500 ESPN has started its 2012 NBA Player Rankings starting from 500 to 401 today. Some of the Rockets players are already up on the board with Fortson, Greg Smith, and Simpson (at 471, 484, and 495 respectively). The list is created by 107 ESPN "experts," some of whom I respect like Hollinger and others who bring good common-sense into this such as Gutierrez. Where do you think the other Rockets will show up on the rankings? No knock on Lin, but I think his ranking will be higher than deserved while Asik's will be lower than deserved, merely because of differing levels of exposure. What about players such as Parsons or our rookies? I'm curious to see the opinions of the more established members of CF.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7116977/nba-player-rankings-1 2011 NBA Player Rankings At this point, Lin was still on GSW roster - rank #467. Not surprising since he had very little playing time at that point. Asik was a surprisingly high #156. Point of reference: KMart was #42, the highest ranking on the Rockets with Scola (#53) and Lowry (#66) following closely.
jerome jordan ranked higher than fortson, smith and simpson and we cut him from a position we are deficient at lol
Im gonna have to say that the only player we have in the top 100 will be kmart, but he will take a drop from 42, to 55-60 range. next highest could be either Lin, Parsons, or Asik. ur guess is as good as mine.
No I doubt Lin's will be that high to be honest. I think Asik's will be quite fair also. Can't wait to see how much Parsons moved up.
Top 50? Hold up, what is the basis for the ranking. ESPN "experts" opinion. Why do you think he will be top 50?
My predictions: Lin within top 75. Asik around 100. Parsons around 150. Unclear where anyone else will end up. Martin is probably around 50s. DMo was 380ish last time - it will be interesting to see where he will end up this year (much higher around 200?).
Not a be-all-end-all definitive ranking. More like an opportunity to see where the media/experts come together about players and their worth. No set criteria for evaluation. I assume some of them go through stats and tape while others merely vote based on gut feeling and whatever they remember from watching the player, if at all. Not intended to insult anyone or denigrate or hype. Just a snapshot of where "experts" stand on all the players and the hierarchy of the NBA right now. Nothing to take too seriously but something that should generate interesting debate (hopefully, not too much of it acerbic :grin.
Oh I see. Yeah don't get me wrong I am definitely interested to see where Rocket players rank. Was just wondering. The players definitely use it as motivation. i know Lin said that his trainer use to yell 467 at him whenever he got tired. So to some players there ranking definitely matters.
They put Kyle Lowry #66 last year. Lin will be around the fifty mark. Not saying Lin is necessarily miles better than Lowry, but the ESPN hype train loves Lin a lot more.
