The trade of Eric Wright from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the San Francisco 49ers was voided Monday, after the cornerback failed a physical, San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh said.

His rights reverted to the Buccaneers, who are in the process of releasing him, a league source said.

There did not necessarily have to be anything phsically wrong with Wright for the 49ers to reject him and scuttle the deal.

Wright had fallen out of favor with the Bucs general manager Mark Dominick and coach Greg Schiano after he was charged with misdemeanor suspicion of driving under the influence in Los Angeles on July 12.

The 49ers had agreed last week to give the Bucs a conditional late-round selection in 2014 in exchange for Wright.

He also served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances last season.

Hate to say this, but in the mean time, the Texans may have to pick this guy off the street...if there is any chance...

But who knows, if the 49ers passed on him, that most likely means his off the field issues are much bigger than previously thought...

That'd be pretty poor form if any team ever falsely said someone failed a physical because they changed their mind about a trade and wanted a way out. That could be damaging to the players' earning potential, etc.

If he did indeed fail a physical then I would assume he wouldn't be able to pass a physical the Buccs would give him in a few weeks.

The Bucs were going to cut him anyway, that's why they tried to trade him. But the concept of rigging a physical so that someone *must* fail it is pretty shady.

This issue with failing the physical is really a bad deal for the player. A team can totally screw over a player. However in this case...there may be more than meets the eye. Eric Wright, while a pretty good player, has some issues off the field. Im thinking this is why the deal was balked on by the Niners...Regardless...im trying to think of ways the Texans can lineup to try making a pitch for his services if at all possible.

I'm pretty sure Eazy E is more valuable to the 49ers than a late first round pick even considering his off field issues.

You must be new to watching the Texans. There is zero chance they pick this guy up due to the off-field issues.

That makes no sense..... "Ok we're cool with doing the deal as long as this dude passes his physical..." Why would they do this opposed to just saying no to the deal? Now that the Kaepernick-Dolphin-hat story is on the backburners, SF wants to be back in the news again?
