No. That's the whole point. It allows OKC to cut salary without having to take on any new obligations. The deal is perfect for them....except for the fact that a West rival now has a quality backup PG. And for those trashing Augustin, the dude is a career 37% 3-point shooter. I'd gladly take that right about now. And he shot 41% from downtown with the Bulls a couple years ago. EDIT: RocketRed84 beat me to it.

Think about why though -- his career year most of his three point shots were assisted or within flow of offense (Bulls). When he was on Pistons (last year) or Charlotte (down year) he had to take those shots off the dribble or at end of shot clock.
Yeah, we pay Augustine $3 million. Meanwhile OKC signs Quinn Cook to a minimum salary deal and they get the better player out of the deal.
Absolutely everyone in the league had their fingers crossing and hope OKC will match. This move is not about how good Kanter will be, absolutely not. Its all about to tight up the salary for OKC and reduce of their chance to improve and every team will have a better shot to get Durant next season. Kanter is nothing but a glorified Lin in C position, with OK offense and horrifying defense. Let's all hope OKC will match that and we all need to thank Portland for this move.

Because some posters want the Rockets to sign any guard that has played in the NBA, regardless of how crappy they are.
Most teams are betting Durant to leave OKC, so what better that let them jack up their payroll while matching a over priced contract and with a guy as useless as Waiters? OKC already has 3 centers in their current lineup, singing a 4th one with max will be as good as you can get. This will be as good as DJ's move against Dallas. Sooner than later, when OKC realizes Adams will be an better option for them, it will be fun.
Wow. That is insane. If OKC matches, I feel like that subtly digs into the pain of the Harden trade a little more. Would end up with 3 max guys + Ibaka, but the third max guy is Kanter instead of Harden!

I like him too. He is better than anything we can acquire. Morey should make a call. Papa can even play for them as a backup if they wish. Add a future 2nd rounder too, if they insist. If they refuse as expected, Morey should try to acquire Perry Jones. He might do better with more minutes in Houston.
If OKC doesn't match twill be interesting to watch Kanter/Leonard big man tandem in Portland. That would have to be the absolute worst big man defensive pairing eva.
