During Trump's "Buy American" event, he repeated another nonfactual claim of 45,000 coal jobs created under the Trump administration. There are only 50,000 total coal jobs in America. BLS stats show only 1,700 coal jobs have been added since October 2016. There have only been 500 jobs added since January.
Two interesting reports from Bloomberg on energy... the rise of clean renewable energy: And the impact Trump's focus on coal is having on other energy sources:
thanks Trump. Now Foxconn made TV doesn't have the extra shipping cost and is going to be that much cheaper, something they publicly stated they wanted to do in ... 2014.
I'll believe it when the factory actually opens. Just take a look at Foxconn's history of supposed big investments, they rarely happens. Take a look at their 2014 "$5 billion investment" in India which was supposed to create 50,000 jobs. Actual investment? a tiny fraction of that $5 billion. Or take a look at their 2011 supposed $ 10 billion investment in Brazil. Actual investment? a teeny tiny fraction of that $10 billion and the factory is now closed already. Or their supposed "$10 billion" investment in Indonesia, "$5 billion" investment in Vietnam, $30 million factory in Pennsylvania etc etc. Starting to see a trend here? They love to announce big investments to gain political favors from politicians, but these "investment" rarely materialize. Again, I'll believe it when the factory actually opens.
The funny thing, Trump earlier bragged that Apple was building three manufacturing plants in America. Which would be unusual for Apple since the don't manufacture in their own plants but instead subcontract out to companies, like Foxconn. So Trump was confusing a known and respected company like Apple with a foreign owned company with a questionable reputation like Foxconn? And why is Apple allowing Trump, a politician with questionable ethics and political positions, to mislead about something like this?
Isn't Foxxconn like a historically unpredictable company known for screwing over their workers? This report looks great on the surface, but i guess we have to wait and see if this plant becomes reality and if the jobs that are created are actually good paying. Keep in mind, employment isn't really an issue in this country, it's scale of pay relative to cost of living in the US and subsidized work forces that are the issue. Will this be 3000 Walmart equivalent jobs or actually have a range of needed skill levels? Also will this turn into another Carrier disaster which has turned Trumps biggest "win" other than Gorsich into a laughing stock?
Trump was again bragging on the great deal he worked with Apple, er, I mean Foxconn to add lots of jobs... well, 3,000 maybe. But hey, adding jobs is always a good thing. And there will be billions and billions of dollars, off the record... Trump: Foxconn CEO said 'off the record' that he may invest $30B http://thehill.com/policy/technolog...-off-the-record-that-he-may-invest-30-billion So wow... such a great deal for Wisconsin, correct? Well, not so great it appears... Foxconn Deal Lets Company Ignore Wisconsin Environmental Protection Laws http://www.ibtimes.com/political-ca...al&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
You remember that great Apple. er, Foxconn deal in Wisconsin that Trump bragged about? The Foxconn deal Trump championed won’t make Wisconsin money for 25 years, report says https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...in-money-for-25-years/?utm_term=.0c5a0772c73a
