According to ESPN, Westgate Sportsbook has the Texans O/U win total at 8.0, at -120. The Texans' schedule is amazing and they are a lock to win 10 games at least. They also have the Jets at 5.0, when the total should be 1.0 at best. More easy money.
By many accounts the Texans have the most difficult schedule in the NFL next season https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...f-the-2017-nfl-season/?utm_term=.1c86355285a3
I don't see much value in that line... I looked at our schedule when it came out and felt like the most probable outcomes were (1) 8-8, (2) 9-7, (3) 7-9
Agreed, that's pretty easy money. Looking at that schedule and knowing that you have 5 or 6 wins in the division alone, 8 is a gimmie unless there is a total meltdown like in the 2 win season.
I'm taking the under on 8-8. You can tell O'Brien looks a little more relaxed this offseason because now with Watson in tow there is less pressure for immediate results. Potential and progress from the QB position supersede absolute W-L record. Think Peyton Manning's first year in the NFL.
I strongly disagree, he's coaching for his job right now. If the Texans have a losing season, he's fired and he'll struggle to rehab his image.
Eh, i can see some teams clamoring for him after his hard knocks performance. Don't think he'd have too much trouble getting another shot.
That sounds more like something fans would do than NFL FO's, I'm pretty sure they'd be able to see how little he's done for the Texans in that he's an offensive specialist and the Texans offense has done nothing but get worse every single season since he's been here. If the Texans manage to have a losing season with the schedule they have now it means that the offense regressed even more from where it was last season. If that's the case, anyone who takes a serious look at BOB would have to realize that RAC and Vrabel has been just about the only bright spots on the Texans' coaching staff.....even if BOB looked cool on HBO.
Edit: I took the bet off because I don't like betting against teams I root for, but I'm still convinced they don't do better than 4-2 in the division.
I could see 4-2 happening, but anything worse would be indicative of a complete meltdown. The Texans are significantly better than any other team in the division so they SHOULD be able to be 5-1 or 6-0, but you never know in the NFL. The whole "any given Sunday" applies. Basically if they go 3-3 or worse in the division BOB should be fired.
People said that last season when the narrative was the rise of the Jags. The Colts are a seriously flawed team but Andrew Luck might be pretty good again, maybe, but they still have no defense. The Titans are up and coming sort of, but I think a lot of the hype has to do with Mariota who is a dink and dunk type QB that got a lot of his yards via YAC and I think the Texans have a good enough defense to shut him down. The Jags are still the Jags. I think every one of them will be better than they were last season, but none of them should be as good as the Texans.....and if they are BOB needs to be fired.
I thought his "performance" on hard knocks was horrible. Comically bad. Throwing out f bombs trying to look tough.
The Titans are still bringing Mariota along slowly, the colts are improving a little with Ballard as their GM but their defense is still bad, the jags still have bortles as their qb for one more year but their defense looks top notch on paper, then there's us who went 9-7(should have gone 10-6) with osweiler at the helm, and watt and kjo out the whole season
8 wins definitely not a lock. I think 4-2 in the division... Lock to beat the Browns, Rams, Niners. Bengals, Ravens, Chiefs and Cardinals are all toss ups...I'd guess the Texans will be slight underdogs in the road games and slight favorites in the home games. Patriots, Seahawks, and Steelers, I'd pencil in as losses. This would give us ~9 wins. Definitely not something I'd bet my house on.
As bad as they were, both the Titans and Colts had better scoring differentials than the Texans last year. You can decide whether winning so many close games was more skill or luck for the Texans.
