It's amazing that at the time of the Clippers trade for CP3, everyone felt that was a vastly superior deal than the package the Lakers/Rockets gave up.

Now, would Phoenix trade Dragic for Gordon, Rivers, and Aminu? :)

    Meh.

It's always easy to judge a trade / pick / transaction, X number of years after it occurred.

That's the thing-- Stern decided, as "owner" of the team, to tank.

Except not really this time. Gordon is still the same injury prone player who was destined to be overpaid and we all knew it. We all knew Aminu was never going to be more than a defensive role player, and the late lotto pick was just that.

The outcry on this forum was for good reason. We all knew the Rockets had the better package, but the trade had more to do with cutting salaries and getting Chris Paul to the other LA team to raise ticket prices once Kobe retires and to convert the fan base.

Why would you pay a man to do a job and then say hey, that's not your job. It was a strange situation and the Hornets getting the first pick after dropping from 8th worst to 4th worst in the leage after the last game in the season with an 11% was very legit. Probably the most legit, unfixed draft in NBA history.

And I'm glad it happened that way because it worked out great. We are where the Lakers would be right now. :)

Gordon's game is very similar to the Beard's, except he plays much better defense. I would trade Harden for Gordon and Anthony Davis.

I'm pretty sure NOLA wouldn't accept a Harden for Davis straight up trade. The Brow is really starting to uncover his special defensive abilities, and he could also be come a force on the offensive end.

And your comparison of Gordon to Harden is so laughable. Gordon's just an overrated player that has never accomplished the art of winning in the NBA.

The point is at the time you can't really judge exactly which deal was better. David Stern vetoed the deal that theoretically netted NO better pieces for the future. And instead let through a trade that severely hamstrung the team due to Gordon's RFA status and subsequent max contract. Both of which were quite easy to see even at the time.

Lowry, Parsons, Gasol and Nene with enough cap room for Love in 2015

Odom could've immediately been traded for Mavs top-20 protected pick that they later gave LA. Kevin Martin could've easily been shipped to Minnesota for a 1st. One that Minnesota would give the Rockets for Budinger. Or perhaps another team.

And they could've kept Dragic to develop as their PG of the future. Instead of keeping Eric Gordon to be their albatross contract of the future.
