On this date in 1995 the Rockets won their 2nd championship, sweeping Shaq and the Orlando Magic. Against all the odds they did the impossible, and Coach Rudy Tomjanovich, of course, summed it all up beautifully: Never forget, never surrender to despair. It may take some time, but we will be back!
It was a wonderful run, one I'll never forget, and the team seemed to grow together as they won one series after another. We'll never have another Dream, but someday we'll have another championship.
During the Knicks series, I would go out to my garage-side hoop before each game and without a warm-up or anything shoot one free throw. If it went in we were winning that game. I hit it before games 6 and 7 so you can thank me for taking the pressure off the team. Didn't feel I needed to do it for the Magic series.
Those were the days... 27 years and no Rockets team since knows what "Heart of a Champion" means. Perhaps by the 30th anniversary, there will be another chance. 2025 Rockets World Champions ?
