Don't be fooled into over funding "defense" business profits.

Repubs --and moderate old fashioned "liberals on all but foreign policy"-- will respond to defense biz panic that short term quarterly profits will be down now that we do not have much of a boots on the ground war in the Middle East.

I find it humorous that the Repubs/"libertarians" who find it a reality and are happy accept that the profit motive is the only motive for organizing society aside from personal piety, or love of your immediate family. They hate government and love "free enterprise". Of course most of the big weapon systems businesses have only one buyer -- the government--and there is usually at most 2 or 3 suppliers. Try getting together a couple of small biz friends to compete with Raythion on cruise missiles. Of course many of the contracts, uncompetitive as they might be with one or two bidders are to boot on a cost plus basis. Can some of you explain how this fits into the supply and demand scheme of Econ 101?

It is a testament to effective propaganda can be that most Americans think that the top retired top military officers who sit on defense biz boards or lobby Congress for more funding or opine even on "liberal" MSNBC about the Chines or the Russians or the Cubans the Venezuelans etc are not excessively motivated by the big bucks they are currently making or are auditioning for in their next placement.

Here's a link to one ThinkTank that given the big buck to be made is not in the tank to the defense business.
