Just adopted a 9-month old puppy to keep my 7-year old lab pei company. They are both high-energy and love to play, but the puppy is a big chewer. We give him rawhide bones but they only last less than an hour and I know rawhide isn't really good for the digestive system. What are some safe non-edible chew toys that will last a long time?
Ordered a free trial box from https://www.barkbox.com/super-chewer/ about 3 years ago and they are still fully intact after daily usage. Company is a bit predatory with cancellation so if you order use a virtual card.
Congrats on your adoption! We’ll need pictures, too! My one tip: whatever chew toy you settle on, give the pup only one at a time. Big mistake with puppies is if there are several chew toys around the house, then everything on the floor or low surface becomes a chew toy…shoes, socks, eye-glasses, phones, game controllers ,,,, drumsticks
We have a Golden Retriever puppy (7mo) who is a massive chewer, to a point where we have to put a muzzle on him when he's out of his kennel. He literally eats anything that he can get his mouth on. Furniture, electronics, metal, plastic, wood, chemical, anything with stuffing he wants to eviscerate, whatever. He's bound for a two-week obedience school next week. Edit, for some reason I can't embed links from Amazon. I've put in the item number you can search for. Anyway, to answer your question, the one toy he hasn't destroyed yet: B09QGHLKKQ He also inherited this toy from our mastiff who passed. The mastiff wasn't able to destroy it in 12 years, either. This thing will probably survive the end of civilization: B000084ERH Lastly, this thing did pretty good, but don't let him have it in his kennel, or the eyes and stuffing will be devoured B0BRQ22T4C
Big brother on the right is a lab/shar pei mix (labpei). He may have some pit in him as well, although he's a big wussy. Puppy on the left is something that starts with a k, I actually don't remember. Kelpie maybe? He keeps going outside and bringing in sticks, dead palm leaves, etc. and chewing them. I think it's bad for his digestive system because he will throw up every now and then. Plus it's not great for our furniture... I ordered some Benebones from Amazon, but I'm open to other ideas and will look into everything suggested in this thread. Post pics of your dogs, while we're at it!
There are dental chews that are good for them, and we got our dog a tough chew thing made from yak milk or some schit! She really loved that and it loved her long time. Also: dogs are the best things ever. They make human life 10x better.
Yeah, he's pretty protective but he whines when he sees a squirrel outside and hides under the bed when it rains. He can be pretty scary looking though, which is good enough for me!
I just rescued/adopted a German Shepard a few months back. She was on the list to be euthanized. I just don’t get it. She’s amazing. Excessive dog hair in my house is taking me out of my comfort zone, so, I vacuum a sh** ton. She’s worth it. Bully sticks worked for a while. Now she tears right through them. Nothing is lasting her long enough right now.
I remember that time my Mom's female yellow lab young dog (Abby) at the time went super hyper in the backyard way back when, was running around, and as part of that frenzy decided to eat some wild mushrooms growing in the backyard. We had to force her to drink Hydrogen Peroxide so she would throw it up. She threw up a lot. We thought she was a goner initially. I don't know why but this thread reminded me of that precious moment.
