I just remembered the time my third grade Southern Belle teacher showed the class a tape of her time in South Africa.

She had servants, emphatically said they weren't slaves, and started tearing up when she thought of the moment she had to leave them.

Aside from that, she was one of the kindest and charming teachers I happen to remember.

My high school History teacher when teaching the Civil War would always refer to the Confederates as “us”. occasionally call it The War Between States.

What an amazingly dumb comparison. Wow.

 

The first time I heard it called War of Northern Aggression was by some professor at U of H, relevantly enough in freshman Biology.

 

He is a white guy - born in Pretoria South Africa. He has a level of racism that cannot be understood by 99% of the world.
You haven’t seen a level of hatred until you are around a family of white South Africans.

 

So Dilbert guy still getting canceled for not agreeing with the authorized party line?

 

From what I have overheard, if you were white in South Africa between like 1955 and 1990 it was the best place on earth if you didn’t have moral issues with how black people are treated.

It was like sort of white paradise where jobs were easy and plentiful and success was as easy as hoping on the back of a couple black South Africans and riding them into the ground.

 

Dilbert guy getting cancelled is low on my list of outrage. Guy wants to be cancelled.

 

I'm not outraged...haven't been following.

Actually, I am never outraged, except when people get murdered senselessly, and when children are seriously harmed.

 

Good friend of mine back in the late 90's had extended family in SA. One of her cousins came to Houston for a few weeks, and he was just cool as hell: fun x10, smart, excellent wingman...until you realized he's got sh!tbag racism ingrained in his entire worldview.

 

I have many white South African friends around age 45-55, mostly from the South African Jewish community. Some of them very close friends of mine. I wouldn't call them racist as such. But I can tell (and they are honest about it) that they don't for instance see black women as potential mates, no matter how beautiful they are. I guess it might come from the segregated upbringing they had.
